To be Hosted or not to be?

Okay I admit this probably has no real purpose on this site, but news flash neither do my other rants! Now I got rather...upset...to say the least when I tried to join a clique recently, being the kind person I am I will not mention the name of said clique or their URL. This clique was to commemorate fallen anime characters, and I thought "Wow! this is perfect for LD!" I was however not allowed to join because I was on a free server, only "hosted" sites were "worthy". Well kiss my ass!

I dont think people realize how expensive it is to have a site let alone get it hosted, believe me I have tried. My main fear of relying on someone to host my site is whether or not they will turn out to be fickle or loyal. I've seen to many people, friends and enemies alike go down because their hosts suddenly decided that either they didn't like their sites or they just got tired of running a site themselves. All of their files were lost and in the end they themselves gave up, rather then face hours of rebuilding said site all over again. It is this fear that keeps me from trusting someone to host my site(s).

Geocities, though not the best, is in my opinion the best choice for now. They wont be going anywhere anytime soon, I mean Yahoo! is like multimillionaire here not to mention their main competition(Homestead)is no longer a freeserver so why would Yahoo! go anywhere. As a poor college student a free site is all I can do for the time being that and I lack the Devil's money which is required for domain registration. Someday somehow I will get my own domain and host all of my own sites on it and then voila life will be easier, hopefully.

As for the people who think only sites with thier own domains or are hosted are worthy sites, well screw them! I'm proud to say that looking at those cliques and rings DW would have been the most popular site. I consider it their loss for looking at their counters and site statistics I noticed that DW generates more visitors and uniques then those other losers, so to all you stuck up rich-punks I say:
