The Demise of the WB

As many of you may be aware in most locations the Warner Brother's Station (WB) is no longer available to the common TV watcher. What does this mean? Why should I care? you ask, simple, the WB for three years now has provided the anime fan with a good selection of shows to watch every saturday morning. At first when one turned on the channel the onl anime you could fine was on Fox Kids, and though we all apreciate Fox's showing of Digimon we still wanted more. And then the WB came along, rising from the ashes much like the fabled phoenix and brought to the hungry anime fan Pokemon, although it is not one of the bests anime in the US let alone the world it was still something more than Dinozaurs and Flint the Time Dective. Sure that even with the WB's recent succes in teen series' such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek and Felicity, Fox T.V. began to eliminate its once great lineup of shows leaving only Escaflowne and Digimon to compete with the WB's high rating shows Pokemon, and Card Captors. To many Fox's obvious lack of interest in it's viewer's choices then discontinued Escaflowne, the only anime they ever broadcasted that had a higher rating than Digimon.

Many fans found themselves apreciating the WB's non-anime lineup of saturday morning cartoons as well, and soon found themselves switching the channel from Fox to the WB, I for one did this. Then along came Yu-Gi-Oh and Fox fell out of the running, I would rise early satrday morning record the early showing of Digimon, then flip the channel and watch the WB till the second showing came on, because seriously who really found Medabots and The Ripping Friends entertaining? After watching and recording the second episode of Digimon I would then find myself back to the WB eagerly awaiting the arival of Yu-Gi-Oh. With Card Captors showing during the week I always had the VCR set to record them, though this would mean I'd miss the chance to record any Digimon episodes I had missed, but I didn't care I mean how can Season03 compare with the beauty that is Yue, Tori, Li, Yukito and Eriol? But one day my happy little bubble busted, came home one day planning on watching an episode of CCS that should have been recorded but instead it was a Novella (spanish soap opera). I was crushed, my trusted VCR had finally failed me and I was at a loss for words, quickly I checked the programing and sure enough the timer information was correct yet my VCR had picked up a channel that until that day had never existed, fearfully I clicked onto the WB and beheld a site not fit for public consumption, instead of Angel before me was Cristina (spanish Oprah) I couldn't beleive my eyes I imediately turned off the TV and prayed I was seeing things. The next day at school I received the final shock to my psyche, the WB had sold out, after buying out UPN it moved to Cable TV. It apeared that with the superb success of Buffy and Angel, the WB thought itself to good for regular TV.

I know what some of you maybe thinking, well just get cable and shut up about it right? Wrong. The WB had always been a provider of great shows and now its gone leaving the waters of regular television stagnant, I have cable though granted one of parental units always has themselves parked in front of the tv, leaving me to view regular televison only. But what about those who dont have cable or satelite? Yes I know it sounds odd but people actually dont have these things, and what about the fact that regular TV is becoming over-run with spanish stations? Did the WB have to sell out as they did, couldn't they have just been satisfied being the kings/queens of regular television. I seriously dont understand their logic for selling out and will mourn the loss of Yu-Gi-Oh and CCS, for something tells me I shall be recording them for a very long time to come. Yes thats right I'm boycotting the WB, for now I will have to be satisfied with renting videos and then burning myself a cop or just downloading, silly, pobably but no one has ever accused me of being rational ayway. Join me in the boycott or just continue to frown whichever pleases you and if the executives of the WB happens to read this note in cyber space I have only this parting shot for you.
Da WB SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!
