Silvery White Swirls on Blue Tips

New nail designs! :D To be honest, I am not really sure what inspired this particular design. I was just thinking that I wanted to do something with my nails, preferably something that left half of my nails clear. Eventually I decided I wanted to use blue in the design and give the purple and greens a bit of a break. This was the result:

Honestly, I hadn’t really realized how long my nails had gotten until I painted them this way! My nail tips are blue (Midnight Blue from Sinful Colors). I traced the bottom edge of the blue-tips in white and drew a small swirl going up in one direction and then down in the opposite direction using a nail art pen (Sally Hansen in Pearly White). I then traced the white lines with silver glitter nail polish (Beware from Pure Ice). Finally, I applied a couple of coats of a clear top coat to seal in color and protect the design (Quick Dry Top Coat from Revlon).

So now, when I go to interviews I no longer have chipped nails! I tried to keep the design fairly simple but classy none the less for this exact reason. I’d rather employers pay attention to me and my qualifications and not particularly how I dress, although I know that’s wishful thinking. Still, I’d rather present a nice polished look and not come off as someone who spends too much time in a salon, if you catch my drift. :) So nice, but understated. Did I succeed?

Flowers and Stripes

Health and Beauty - 3 Comments » - Posted on February, 18 at 8:42 pm

I meant to post photos of these last night and then I forgot. Oops. Well, even though I loved the design I had on my nails previously it got pretty chipped and messed up the other day when I was helping my mom get the battery out of her truck (battery posts were very corroded, all in all, not fun prying that sucker out) and needless to say the already chipping polish I had on was toast. I ended up repainting my nails with a pretty simple design last night. These have a plain purple base (Boomerang from L.A. Colors) with white stripes. The middle fingers on each hand have a flower drawn on them and outlined in black. The left hand features a dandelion with fluff floating down and the right hand has a tulip with a petal falling off.

Not the fanciest but still a fun look. And hey! At least I don’t have chipped and cracking polish on my nails when I go to turn in my resume in person to a couple of places tomorrow! :D

Best and Worst Birthday Gifts Ever

Entertainment, Food and Drink, Health and Beauty - 1 Comment » - Posted on February, 12 at 7:47 pm

My 29th birthday…damn, but the years have flown by. Almost to the big 3-0. Now that’s a scary thought. No drinks or dinner out for me this year, or at least not today. My birthday gift to myself….a trip to the dentist for a couple of fillings and getting my wisdom teeth extracted.

Oh that was fun. So no hot drinks, alcohol, spicy food, drinking through straws, or hard foods for me today. Strictly liquid diet. But hey, the pain meds I got (Vicodin) make everything kind of good. Oh boy do those things work really well. I can see why folks get addicted to them!

On my to the dentist’s office, I heard Shannon, a dj for the local rock station Rocket 99.5FM, do his daily prize giveaway called Shannon’s Sack Lunch. The prize this week is really awesome, and even though I didn’t expect to even get through (just because the prize was that awesome) I gave it a try…..and ended up lucky caller number nine!

Usually the sack lunch prize is for Wienerschnitzel, which is cool, but that’s nothing compared to this:

  • Surrender the Fall’s album “Burn in the Spotlight”
  • $10 gift certificate to Caliche’s
  • gift certificate for a Cake Pop Bouguet from the Green Door Bake Shop
  • and a gift certificate for the Las Cruces Taproom and Zeffiro Pizza

Ah yeah, now that is an awesome B-day gift.

Joining the Ranks of the Unemployed

Work - 2 Comments » - Posted on February, 7 at 11:48 am

I joined the ranks of the unemployed today. I closed yesterday evening, and even though the branch manager had decided to fire me then, he ordered nothing to be said to me until today. So I came in at my usual time, drove all the way to ‘Cruces just to be fired and sent packing.

And the reason, the little petty excuse he finally found to fire me? I took a check for $18 that was dated for January 2012 when we’re 2013 that bounced because it was stale-dated. Okay, you could kinda understand the reprimand there….not a termination. Except, hold up wait a minute. I took that check back in January, when, you know, as a courtesy we were taking checks dated January 2012 instead of 2013 for the entire month because people always take a little time adjusting to the new year and writing the correct year on checks.

Truth was, the branch manager just wanted me gone. Last time he was acting as temporary branch manager at our branch he was gung-ho about getting rid of certain people and I was one of the ones he didn’t like then, but not one of the two he really had in for. He was eventually sent to another branch because of the friction he cause, but not before the aforementioned two employees were fired. Then he got the branch manager position permanently and he’s had it in for me since the get go. Petty write ups when he can, threw me on 90 day probation for supposedly talking down to him when he was the one who talked snidely to me. Then spiteful little punishments. Like mandatory cleaning the parking lot and atms every morning even though those are jobs that the tellers rotate, they become only my jobs. Do it or a write up. So what if only part timers work the weekends and you’re a full timer, work Saturdays or it’s a write up. If we need coverage in T or C you go or it’s a write up.

I might have been fired today, but the truth is, I was ready to walk a long time ago. The other people I worked with though made it fun and for them I am thankful. I could never have kept my sanity without them.
