Thanks Cat

It started raining yesterday evening and has been raining since. Oh, it’ll stop for a few hours, or slow to a drizzle, but that’s about it. On top of the rain it’s cold and windy outside. Definitely a day you don’t go outside if you don’t have to. It’s the kind of weather that results in a lot of desperate phone calls from drivers for roadside assistance.
Which is exactly why I can’t figure out why exactly Denali wanted to go out in it. I do, however, know what the end results of her ten minute excursion were:

Yes, Denali was most insistent that I open the door and let her outside. And I obliged, though to be honest, I thought as soon as she saw the rain pouring down she’d decide going outside wasn’t worth it. I was wrong and instead she darted outside into the rain. Ten minutes later I hear her yowling at the kitchen door to be let in. I opened it to find the rain had stopped for a bit and that Denali had left a present for me in a patch of mud by the sidewalk.
This, combined with the gory remains she left me a few days ago, really has me wondering just what goes on inside that kitty’s mind. Why go out in the rain for all of ten minutes to kill a mouse you’re not going to eat? This cat makes absolutely no sense to me.

I think I can one up you on this one :-P I had a cat who was an excellent hunter that became an indoor/outdoor cat because my roomates were incapable of preventing her from escaping. She’d regularly leave birds at the door. Not an issue till my roomate got a dog, that resulted in us finding the bird, not politely outside the door as a surprise, but scattered over all the furniture as a feast.
As crazy as it sounds I’ve heard when cats do this they are trying to get your praise for their kill. One of my cats would leave mangled rabbit organs and birds on the porch. He even ran into my sister’s house with a live snake in his mouth-she had a complete freak out.
