Looking, We’re Still Looking

I’ve been putting in applications all over town this past week hopping for a callback, a nibble, just something. So far nothing to report. I’ve even begun investigating the numerous work at home venues. A few are promising, such as the call center ones, but I need to have a landline and high speed internet available and there’s the kicker. My landline is how I get on the internet so that’s out.

I’m willing to pick up a simple job as a clerk at a department store or a meager secretary too but that avenue seems just as hard. If I hear one more time that I’m “over-qualified” because I have a degree I’m going to scream. So what, hire me anyway! At least you know for damn sure I’m competent. Unlike some lazy gum-smacking bimbos at the customer service counter at Target. Ugh. One of them actually tried to discourage me from working because the POS systems they use are difficult and “annoying”. She went on to elaborate that she never had to work one of these computers before and if she knew that that was what they meant by computer skills she wouldn’t have applied. What, did you think they were hiring you because of your mad Facebook skills?

How come girls who dress tacky, look like their hair would catch on fire if I lit a match near them, who have two-inch long nails, smack their gum in a customer’s face, and jibber-jabber with co-workers get hired but I don’t? What’s up with that?!

I am sorry for the situation you are experiencing during your applying on job. You are qualified but then they will tell you your over qualified. I guess it’s not the quality of the education you have is their requirements but whom you know. Don’t loose hope you can find job also.

I hear you there. I’ve only been called for 2 interviews, and I’m starting to think that the fact that I went from a call center that paid $9 an hour to applying for cashier at Target, etc, is why they don’t hire me. UGH. This job market stinks. :P

Unfortunately, they feel if you have a degree, then they have to pay you more. So you’re “over-qualified” because you’ll cost too much. Nevermind that you’d be wiling to work for less.
