Denied for Benefits

You may recall that I applied for unemployment benefits since DialAmerica still hasn’t bothered to contact me about when I can start work again. Well, I finally got the paperwork and information packets from Texas Workforce today. A lot of good it did me really, apparently I have been denied benefits. According to one letter, I was denied benefits because I have zero income for October 2007 to June of 2008. They counted a whole year before I started at DialAmerica and then didn’t even acknowledge the months I was working there.
So based on these “findings” I don’t qualify.
Yet they gave me all of this hoopla that they expect me to go through regardless. Such as a minimum of three search contacts per week and keep a record of it because they might ask. Why should I be arsed to comply and jump through their hoops if I’m not going to be getting benefits?
On Monday, I’ll give them a call and figure out exactly where they get off counting months I wasn’t employed and not counting the months I was employed at all. Reading through all of their paperwork is such a headache. They should have just saved me the trouble of reading through all the legalese and stamped a big fat red DENIED on the paperwork with one of those rubber stamps and just listed the why in simple English. But did they do that? No.
Once again, the system fails to come through for the folks who need it. But I bet the people working the system are getting the money they want just fine.

When my ex-roommate was denied by the Texas Workforce for unemployment benefits, they told her she didn’t have “enough quarters” worked for the company. But to not pay attention to the months worked for the company – plus, weren’t you still going to school for part of that? (I’m brain dead right now and can’t remember when you graduated.) So why should they say you’re denied? UGH, they make no sense at all!
Wow, this is EXACTLY 100% exactly what I am going through with unemployment. To the letter. It’s almost not even worth the effort. You end up spending all your job search time becoming a “full time defender of your status for unemployment.” In fact, perhaps I should’ve majored in that…
Benefits are so hard to get- yet somehow the people who shouldn’t have them have no problem. I’ve seen it happen a handful of times. My Mom is completely disabled and it took years for her to finally get on it. The debt you end up going into just trying to get what is rightfully yours is ridiculous.
I really hope you get it all worked out!
(Sorry I pressed the “Enter” key before I meant to) Stupid Dial America and bureaucracy. Government programs often have just enough holes in them to screw over a bunch of people.
Wow, that’s really messed up. Who cares about June 2008 when you’re looking for work in March 2009!
