You Want to Play Games With Me? Fine! I’ll Play.

Do you recall my little rant session where I mentioned that a woman who shares my first name and a phone number similar to mine had been giving me grief? In case you don’t, and you don’t feel like reading that post, here’s a quick little recap. A woman who is also named Joana and has a phone number close to mine, matching last four digits but different first three digits, has been giving out my number instead of hers in error. This has resulted in me getting all kinds of phone calls from various companies and people looking for her. I’ve been woken up at 6am by my phone ringing and it was intended for her, not me. I’ve been in the middle of things and had to stop to take to take a call that was, you guessed it, for her and not me. It is annoying as hell and it has been going on for months.
The thing is, I’ve had this number for a couple of years now so it’s not that I just got this phone number and she used to have it and is still getting used to her new one or something. I’ve had this phone number since I’ve been with Verizon, so we’re talking easily four years now.
To put a stop to this, every time I’ve gotten a call that was intended for her I’ve told the recipient they had the wrong number and most have been understanding. Well, one was not so understanding and was apparently related to this other Joana (she probably spells her name Joanna now that I think about-anyway!) because at long last I made contact with this woman. And boy was she pissed off that I was telling people they had the wrong number. According to her I’ve caused her a lot of trouble because information was getting confused and what not. My response? Not my problem lady, learn your phone number and give it out correctly or deal with the consequences. I’m not your secretary and I am not fielding calls for your ignorant self.
She didn’t much care for my lack of sympathy for her.
She even threatened to call the police on me. Oh ho! I’m positively trembling now. So I went ahead and called Verizon, let them know what was going on, they’re going to get in touch with her and logged the information of her call to me and also instructed me to make a formal report with the police, because since she is aware of what is happening and threatened to continue it, it is now officially harassment.
Finally this annoying saga can be put to an end! I am so tired of having her case worker calling me every day. Yes, she has a case worker. She’s also on welfare, is trying to buy a house for a low-income family, has at least one kid in elementary and one in middle school. This woman was also doing some repairs to her home that necessitated an electrician and the water company to be heading out to her house to do repairs. These are the first calls I received when I decided I had had enough and told these guys they had the wrong number, right name though hence their confusion, and to please not call again. I can also tell you that for being on welfare she sure does do a lot high-end spending. I’ve gotten calls from Schwanns, Columbia Movies, various online merchants, and even calls regarding a new auto insurance policy and life insurance for kids.
Today, I just got a call from BMG Music, and since I was a member at one point I at first thought the call was for me since they just asked for “Joana”. Well while talking to them, the agent addressed me as “Mrs. ####”. Aha, I thought, this isn’t for me after all. Just to let my evil side out a bit, when the agent asked if I would be interested in receiving the specials they had to offer I didn’t decline anything.
And when her case worker calls today at 4:30pm, like clock-work, I’m going to tell her to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.

Man, if this was me this was happening to, I’d be having some fun at her expense.
I’d be saying yes to the telemarketers who call for her, the cds, the movie clubs, whatever they were selling, I’d say yes, send it, sign me up! Especially considering how this woman said she’s going to keep doing it and threatened to call the police on you.
And I’d like to know what her complaint to the cops would be.
“Um, yes, I’d like to complain about this other woman named Joana who is getting my phone calls because I screwed up and gave it out wrong, and she’s telling people it’s the wrong number. I’d like you to make her be nice and take a message for me officer.”
Yeah, uh-huh. LOL
OMG… how rude can that woman be? She’s knowingly giving out a wrong number and plans to continue doing so? Well, when people call for her promise them anything.. it will all go back on her. I sure as hell would. lol
That woman totally sounds like she’s giving out the wrong number on purpose o__o. Heh, I’d probably do the same thing as you if I was in your position.
Kat,
I tried to be nice and understanding, but the fact that this is still going on and she herself knows the mistake has happened and seems to think I should bend over backwards and accommodate her, well that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
She’s signed up with BMG, and when they called earlier, I accepted all of their monthly specials on her behalf. She’s going to be mightily surprised when she she’s they’ve already charged her for these cds and sent them on their way. Her case worker is now very upset with her too and threatening to put her on “probation status” whatever that means. *whistles* Must have been because she was so rude to her case worker when she called today.
LMAO! Oh I can just imagine the look on the officer’s face as he takes that statement XD She seems stupid enough to do it too.
Charlotte,
Indeed! It seems as though it was an error, but she could care less and she seems to think I’m obligated to assist her. WTF? I can’t follow this logic.
What annoys me the most, really, is that she’s got kids in school and obviously gave the wrong number at one point because I’ve gotten calls from the school when one kid was sick and running a 104 temperature. Another time when a kid got in a fight and was suspended. Does she not care about them?
Don’t worry, the telemarketers and sales reps are about to find her very accommodating to their phone-sales. XD I’m tired of playing nice.
Melinda,
It’s either on purpose or she just doesn’t feel like correcting her mistakes. Either way, she’s going to find out the hard way just what the price of laziness is. ~_^ Thanks Melinda, glad to see I’m not the only one who would react this way.
I can’t believe that she would have the gall to sit there and treat YOU like you’re doing something wrong! She obviously has very few brains, especially since she isn’t even giving her case worker the correct phone number.
I’d try asking the case worker where her office is, then go to the office (if it is accessible to you), have her call the number she has for this woman, and then show her that you are NOT that person. After all, she should know what the person she’s supposed to be dealing with looks like!
She sounds like a really stupid woman. Screw her world up. She deserves it. Maybe she’ll learn how own phone number then.
On a side note, not related to this post. I jumped over here from my blogrush widget on my blog just to let ya know. I love these comment icons you have here. They are really cool.
Sorry for the off-topic but David inspired me!! where did you get those icons?! they’re wonderful! can i ask for a post about them? pleeeease! :-D:pumpkin:
What a bitch! I swear not all people on welfare are like that! lol.
I think you did everything in your power to make the calls stop. You also had every right to bitch her dumb ass out.
Hey ho! Long time no see… I’ve been hibernating (for half the year!). :-) I’m slowly creeping back into the online world again. Although I feel bad for it being Despair to push me back into visiting my regular sites. :-( Oh dear…
Any way, to keep on-topic (naughty girl!), it sounds like a right mess you’ve been dealing with! I’m shocked to hear everything that has happened so far!
It’s weird ‘luck’ that she memorized the wrong number (well, partly wrong) but yet it magically was your entire correct number! I guess with three digits to play with, the chances are higher than you’d really think about!
She should have had more decency towards you, to treat you a little bit better. Yes she made a mistake, but at least you were civil about pointing it out! She shouldn’t have acted like a donkey’s arse and threatened you with the police card.
My god, what would she say to them?! By no means have you done anything wrong!
Bah, people. They are so bloody stupid!
Wow, what a bummer that she did that. You should get some information on her and then play games with her, getting junk mail sent or other things, tech her not to mess with fire.
How absolutely annoying! You’d think her case worker would be smart enough to quit calling YOU, but I guess everyone’s an idiot. Glad you’re dealing with it through verizon now.
God, that would really piss me the fuck off.
Do you have any way of figuring out the first three digits of her number? If so, you should give it to every single caller - even the telemarketers and debt collectors!

That was great, serves her right for being an idiot.
Sucks you had to go through that anyway…
