What Lurks on Page 123?

I saw this fun and quick meme on Fiction Scribe early this morning and I had to respond to it, not to mention, turn around and post it on my blog.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).
  2. Open the book to page 123.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the next three sentences.
  5. Tag five people.

The nearest book at hand was one of my old textbooks actually. One of my forensic textbooks. ;)

Some of the best examples of taphonomic research have been in the field of forensic entomology. Life cycles of flies are species-dependent and the rate of development is highly sensitive to temperature conditions. In a generalized life cycle, adult flies lay eggs (ovadeposit) near a food source (p123).

The above passage was taken from Forensic Science: An Introduction to Scientific and Investigative Techniques by Stuart H. James and Jon J. Nordby. It is definately one of my favorite textbooks and one of only a handful I kept in order to read over and over again and reference from time to time. Page one hundred twenty three was all text, but the following pages had some nice high res pictures to illustrate. :D That was another selling point for me on this book. Beautiful illustrations with crystal clarity.

I guess that makes me an oddball for calling these images beautiful, huh? Well it’s not so much the subjects, but the quality. Absolutely amazing.

As for who I tag…anybody who wants to respond to this quick little meme. You can write a post if you like, or just respond in the comments with your answer. :)
