Well That Was Scary!

After an hour of sitting on pins and needles Nanashi-Inc.net is now back online.

What the heck just happened, you ask? I honestly have no idea. The site went down a little after 3pm and only just barely came back up. I was in the middle of responding to a comment and then BAM! “Firefox cannot establish a connection” message comes up.

I could not access any of my sites, not the blogs, not the exchange, just nothing. I brought up my FTP client and gave that a try. Surprisingly enough that worked just fine. And also, strangely enough, I was able to access my webmail through the online system just fine by typing the url into the browser, however, I could not access my cpanel.

Yes my friends, Joana was freaking.

I contacted Host Gator support to see what was up and was told they were aware of the error and that it was confined to just one server. They could not however give me an ETA on when everything would be back. Flash forward to 4:45pm and my site in now accessible again.

Maybe it’s time to consider moving from Host Gator? So far this year they have definately exceeded their 99.9% downtime with me. :secret:

You mean 99.9% uptime? Really though, they’ve been great to me. I’m on Kate’s reseller account and that’s been doing really well.

That’s a bummer when you start to see service go downhill. Well, if you’re ever in the mood to switch hosts, you know where to look for mine. I’ve always given her rave reviews and I probably won’t stop for a very long time.

Another good idea is to get your emails hosted at Google Apps so that way, if your site is completely down, you can still access your emails and send them out as well. (All free by the way. Email migration, however, is not)
