Wardrobe Explosion

My wardrobe seems to have expanded all on its own, and not in the best of ways. I had a job interview earlier (no, it didn’t go well) and when I was getting dressed I ran into an interesting dilemma. It would appear that since I keep picking jobs that had me doing something besides standing (or sitting) around and looking pretty and the fact that I was a college student to boot, well my office attire is sort of lacking. I’ve got a very abundant variety of t shirts now. Tons of anime, rock, and even HP t-shirts. Crazy, yes? Quite a few jeans and cargos too, slacks, suits, and blouses are definately the minimum. No dresses though, and only a handful of skirts.

I eventually managed to find a nice blouse to go with my charcoal gray slacks, and I thought I looked smashing. My interviewer though made some rather disparaging remarks about how women seem to think pant suits are appropriate business attire instead of skirts these days. I just made a comment along the lines of “well, times have changed, sir. It’s important that we move along with them, as the people and customers demand”. His face looked rather pinched for the rest of the interview. Methinks I’m not getting a callback.

How incredibly sexist. I wouldn’t wanna work for someone like that anyway.

Pffft it’s so retarded that some people think women still need to be wearing skirt suits. Whatever feels comfortable and looks professional should be acceptable. You probably didn’t want to work there anyway.

    Julie,

Indeed. That’s pretty much what I told myself on the way home. If there are people like that working above me it would have only been a matter of time before I pissed them off anyway. I’m a bit of a feminist and there is no way we wouldn’t have clashed eventually.

But damn, I got up early and made an hour commute for nothing! :grr:

Well, considering his comment, I wouldn’t have wanted the callback anyway. You’re better off without this particular job. However, if you’re low on office attire in general, now might be a good time to stock up… after you pay your bills that is.

… that’s so rude of him! What does it matter if you’re wearing pants or a skirt as long as it’s business attire. Gah, I would have walked out lol.

I know about your business clothes dilemma too, I have NONE… I had to go buy some extra clothes last week for an interview :P
