Two Dogs Rescued

I’ve completely and utterly destroyed my image of being a cold-hearted bitch today. Strangely enough, I don’t really mind. I even allowed myself to get covered in mud, sweat, and drool. Not to mention, at the end of it, I smelled like a wet dog.
You see, I was just fixing to go take a shower when I heard a large commotion going on outside. Both Shizuku and my mother’s dog were in an uproar and both Isis and Denali had already scurried away to their preferred hiding places - my closet and behind the bar, respectively. I was really curious as to just what had them in an uproar. When I got outside I found this large grey and black spotted dog and this cute brown puppy running around. The mystery was solved.
Now normally I would have just tried to run the dogs off, but they were very friendly and came up to me, so I decided it would be better to call animal control and have them picked up. Friendly animals like these two rarely get lucky enough to find their way back to their owners after all.
The large dog had a collar with two tags on it, where as the puppy did not. No home phone number or address, but one was for a rabies vaccination and the other was an animal rescue so I decided to call the number on the second tag. Turned out it was a Great Dane rescue and after providing the number on the tag they were able to contact the owners and have them come out and pick the dogs up.
Now, if you repeat this story to any of my neighbors they’ll laugh themselves silly at you. Joana, nice enough to return the pets to the owners and not call animal control ASAP? BUAHAHAHA! I tell you, the idea is laughable. The difference here though is that their dogs were well-mannered, had tags (well one did), and were obviously well loved and cared for. My neighbor’s pets, well the ones that wander into our yard anyway, do not get shots, are not spayed or neutered, and tend to attack our pets (as well as property in some instances). Big difference.
I was disturbed to see though that the apparent reason the two dogs launched themselves into our yard was because they were, in a sense, on the run from the law. You see, there is a large evergreen tree by my window that gives some nice cover from the view of the road and I was standing by this tree with one hand attached to the Great Dane’s collar, my cell held between shoulder and ear, while my other hand was preoccupied with keeping the puppy out of Shizu’s reach. I had just drug drug the over-excited puppy away from Shizuku, who did not want to play, and was on hold while the Great Dane rescue folks contacted the owners when I saw a rather disturbing sight.
A tan truck with a white decal on the side drove by, windows down, with two guys in it. The one passenger was talking loudly with an arm hanging out the window, in his hand he held what looked to be an electric cattle prod. I distinctly heard him say “Where the fuck are those shits” before the vehicle passed. Now, as I was in the shadow of the tree with the dogs, they never saw me, they didn’t really glance too much at our yard in fact. Now, it was apparent to me they were looking for some one, and since the passenger was clearly looking down towards the ground and into the ditch as they passed by, I think it’s safe to say they were looking for animals. I almost called out to them, but I bit my tongue. Something just did not feel right, for one, animal country has white trucks that either have the “Dona Ana County Animal Control” emblem or have the sheriff’s department emblem on it and have the cages and what not. This truck did not.
Not to mention, I’ve never seen animal control use electric cattle prods to round up animals either. I honestly don’t know what to make of that and I even took the liberty to warn the owners, when they showed up, about what I saw. Granted, the friendly puppy was a pit bull, but it was clearly a happy little guy. Although he did spook me with how vicious he sounded when my grandfather drove up unexpectedly. The Great Dane was well trained though, I had fun with the basic commands and even the puppy followed them to an extent. So I have a hard time believing those guys had to use that cattle prod because the dogs were vicious. Both dogs came to me happily enough, in fact the Great Dane acted as if I was her savior and happily threw herself against my legs. These observations tell me that something was so not right with what I saw.

Awww Lady Joanana rescued two doggies from the evil hands of evil dogcatcher people. I’m glad you safely returned them to their owners.
Well that was very nice of you. I hardly ever get close enough to stray dogs to see their tags, because they are usually in our yard to eat my moms animals. :/ So we scare them away.
I can’t be sure, but it sounds like you stumbled across some dog nappers, unfortunately, there are people of the scum class that go around kidnapping peoples pets and sell them to medical, and cosmetic labs for animal testing. I’m glad you took the opportunity to be great for these two animals. I know they are much happier at home than
being slowly tortured and disposed of by some heartless lab.
