Turkey! Free Turkey for Me!

Heh, guess what? All of this week, for every sale we got, our name went into the drawing. Now from this collective pool, the supervisors would pull a name out for prizes. Prizes included $5 and $10 time card bonuses and a free turkey dinner. Now my mom had already boughten a turkey, so I wasn’t really trying to win that. I really wanted a time card bonus, and when I realized that the drawing for the turkey wouldn’t be until today, I thought all my slips were going just for the TC bonuses but lo and behold, it was all a collective pot.
For the curious, I had 9 sales Saturday, 5 on Monday, and 5 on Tuesday. Which means I had 19 slips go into the drawing. Pretty good odds, right?
So today, as the pot luck was starting, they drew the winner of the turkey meal – me. I was going to turn it down, especially since mom had mostly bought everything, but some co-workers convinced me to just take it, especially given the trouble that DA can cause us at times. That and it would be, apparently, in bad taste to turn it down and un-thankful of me. I felt it was greedy of me to take it, but oh well.
So mom is happy, the Thanksgiving Day meal just got easier. The entire meal is done, just needs to be warmed up. The turkey is fully cooked, and the other stuff is pop out of the container style, as it was fully prepared by Albertsons. It came with gravy, stuffing and mashed potatoes, which mom always makes a lot of because those two (stuffing and potatoes) are favorites. So tomorrow we just cook the turkey for a few hours, do the vegetables, biscuits, and pies, and it’s done.
Biscuits did come with it, but they’re this sweet Hawaiian style kind. Considering the fact that there will be yams, Jell-o salad, mincemeat, and pumpkin pies, along with the starches (stuffing, potatoes, ect), we really should cut out the bad stuff where we can with regards to my grandfather who is a diabetic. As a result, mom is going to make her own biscuits from scratch. As far as I’m considered that is A-O-K with me.
Her biscuits are friggin awesome.
We’ll probably cook those Hawaiian ones next week some time to go with another meal.
As for the turkey mom had already bought? Back into the freezer it went. It hadn’t had much of a chance to thaw yet, and mom did buy some boxes of stuffing already, so it looks like part of Christmas dinner might already be bought.
I have a feeling that, by the end of the holidays, I am going to taking orovo diet pills, or something like that, in order to drop all the pounds I’m bound to gain.

That was nice of you to want to turn down the prize. Most people wouldn’t even think that way. But now you’ll have an easy Thanksgiving and save some money for Christmas dinner. Happy Thanksgiving!
Connie,
Thanks Connie.
Frankly, I felt greedy, but when I think about it in the long run, I really am glad I accepted the prize after all. Christmas dinner just got a lot more cost-friendly, not to mention, I did technically earn it by doing so well in sells.
So I’m thankful I had a good sales week and will have a hearty and easy to cook meal tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too Connie!
Woo hoo! Congrats on winning the turkey!
Congrats.. You’ve won the prize.
