Took Him Long Enough

I’m still in a bit of shock here. It’s been nearly a full year since my uncle last deigned to speak with us and just the other day he decided to get in contact with my grandfather. He wished him a happy Father’s Day and acted like nothing happened.

A truly What. The. Fuck moment if you ask me.

Now here’s the real kicker; towards the end of the conversation he apologized for not being able to contact for a bit. His excuse? Apparently it was because he didn’t know that the area code had been changed from 505 to 575. A very plausible excuse, and one I would certainly forget and forgive, if it weren’t for the fact that he decided to cut off contact with us for roughly a year and the area code change was underway before then. On top of that, until recently, you could still contact folks in the new 575 area with the old 505 area code. In short, his excuse doesn’t fly. Calling us with the old area code, up until about a couple of months ago, would have worked just fine and he would have reached us.

Should I even mention the fact that area codes changing has nothing to do with one’s ability to pick up their phone when they receive a call or to call back? No, I thought not.

While he’s spoken to my grandfather and inquired about my mother and I, I still haven’t had a chance to speak with him yet. Don’t know what will happen when I finally do.

Well at least he tried to come up with an excuse. Though a real apology for being an ass would have been so much better.

That was a pretty lame excuse to make. Just own up to it people! Jeeeeez.

But… even though his excuse was lame and it was his decision to be an ass, at least he was nice and civil, no?
