They’re Finally Done!

I just got the official word a few minutes ago – my taxes are finished.
Best year, despite my fears, I’m not going to owe on my taxes. Instead I’m getting back a refund!
Sadly though, the amount I’m getting back on my Federal is a paltry amount. Nowhere near as much as I normally get back. My State return is about the same, maybe more, and only on account of some rebates and credits.
Being self-employed sucks when it comes to the taxes. I’m going to have to make estimated payments this year just to be sure I don’t end up owing at the end of the year. I’d rather pay in some money at small increments all year, and maybe even get some back, rather than be hit with an amount to be paid plus interest and penalties at the end of the year. Know what I mean?
I did learn a valuable lesson this time around however, keep damn good track of your expenses. I know there were several that I lost receipts for or never made photocopies of the receipts for either and as a result, the ones printed on thermal paper faded away.
Luckily I didn’t make that mistake with my laptop purchase!
But early in the year, around January to March of ‘07 I had some expenses that I never bothered to keep track of that I should have, they would have really helped too.
I would have still shown a profit for 2007, but the expenses would have helped to balance things out better.

I still haven’t done mine.
Ugh.
oooh I haven’t even tried to get all of my taxes done yet. I should do that. like now.
I didn’t actually make enough money to need to file taxes, so lol, mine were done before they started.
Blah on not getting a large enough refund from the IRS, but at least they’re done, right? And you learned how to better keep track of things for this year.
You’re so right about the being self employed part, you always should remember to pay in. It’s better to have a little bit less money each month than to have to pay in at the end. Plus rebates are awesome.
Kat,
Hehe, I’m still used to being a college kid and having to get mine done ASAP so that I can renew my financial aid. The sooner the better. ^_^ So I had everything I needed all gathered up in it’s own folder, I was just waiting on my mom to install her new software and file them for me.
Karyn,
Yes, you should certainly get to work on those taxes kiddo. April is fast approaching! If you don’t owe anything, and are 100% sure of this, you’d be okay filing late. But if you do owe, there will be penalties and interest added on to what you do owe.
