The Abandoned Farm

It’s really sad just how many farmers have turned to selling their land lately, and even sadder is the fact that with the house market as it is, these lots are doing nothing but just sitting there. No potential homeowners to buy the land, and no mortgage lenders to finance them.
These are some shots of one farm that edges our home. Ironically, the man was always trying to buy my grandfather’s land from under him. Now, well, in order to pay his debts he sold off the land that had been in his family for generations. You may recall me mentioning before that he was trying to sell the land to developers so that they could build low income housing. Yeah, turn our beautiful neighborhood into the projects why don’t you. But in any case, with all of the opposition (on the State and local level!) and the economy as it is, the developer wisely backed out.
Yesterday evening, I decided to take a walk the abandoned plots and take a few shots. These were the ones I liked the best:

The only tenant on the abandoned farm is an old grocery bag. That’s quite sad. Pretty land though.
Julie,
It is depressing. Every time I go for a walk I try not to pay too much attention to the area around me.
