Raw Snacks are Yummy!

In my quest to live and eat a bit healthier I had a friend suggest that I try adding raw foods to my diet. Raw Foods?! It’s not what it sounds like.
A raw foods diet is comprised of uncooked, unprocessed, and mostly organic foods as the main portion of one’s regular eating habits. I love meat too much to ever become a vegetarian or a vegan, but I cannot deny that adding organic foods to my diet has helped tremendously. Instead of munching on Doritos and dips while sitting in front of the computer I tend to munch on dried fruits and raw vegetables. It keeps me from skipping meals and is unbelievably healthier than eating junk food. Not to mention the added energy boost.
I can’t be made to part with my soda though. Every morning, without fail, while others are nursing their coffee I’m nursing a Dr. Pepper.
Adding more tea and water to my diet has helped though.
One of my favorite snacks to munch on are sultana raisins (also called sultanina), which are made from the white seedless Sultana grapes from Iran and Turkey. You’ve probably had these grapes in scones or even white wine.
These raisins are wonderfully sweet without artificial additives or flavoring, which means they knock any candy you could otherwise eat for a snack right out of the ballpark.
And so, after going on and on about these raisins and how much I like them, I bet you can imagine my sorrow when the organic store that was closest to the vet’s office was out of them. And not just the raisins either, quite a few other things I wanted and a few herbs I had hopped to get in preparation for a special meal I’m making.
After the trip to the vet’s I was really hoping to pick up some groceries, but since most of the stuff I wanted wasn’t in stock I had to forgo the impromptu shopping trip. At least until Wednesday, which is when I was assured that new stock was coming. I suppose I could have bought some produce and other snacks while I was there, but I figured that since I have to go back I might as well just do all of my shopping at once.

Well, it’s true that organic and natural foods are healthier. But they also cost a ton more.
They are great, but around here, you have to fight to get organic foods. I mean, there are a few in the packaged department like a few organic cereals, an organic mac & cheese dinner, and the like, but fresh or dried fruits or fresh vegetables? Good luck. *sigh*
@Julie: no, you are wrong. If you can cook and if you live in Southeast Asia, it is very easy to eat natural foods. However, I must admit it’s harder to eat ones in US.
