Quiet on all Fronts

Well, I’ve papered the town with my resume all of last week and I’ve been religiously pouring over the classifieds to boot and yet it’s too quiet. So far I’ve gotten a lot of “we will be reviewing all applicants and call you when we’ve decided…”. How much time is a decent amount to allow to pass before you call them back and ask about the status of your application? I know that some employers use that tactic to see who really is interested in the job while others get annoyed with it. :(

Of course, the really irksome thing is seeing that the Hobbs Police Department is still hiring crime scene technicians and police officers but I haven’t heard anything back from them. I’m guessing that means they’re not interested? Well, a six hour commute didn’t sound all that fun anyway. :P

There are a couple of places I have to go apply to in person tomorrow though, two of which have pretty high turnovers given that people sign on for the benefits without realizing that you have to be there a minimum of six months to qualify. I remember them hiring back when I was working security and I remember quite a few people complaining about that. I don’t see why though, benefits are benefits. I’d have stuck it out for them. So yeah, they’re hiring again and I’m applying with them. Who knows, maybe they’ll be my lucky break.

I just hope I don’t wake up with a bad case of acne out of the blue. Nothing like looking like a pimply-faced high school student when applying for a job. :grr:

I came across your blog through entrecard (thanks for the drop).

Best of luck with the job hunt. Sometimes following up with a phone call does help. I recently hired someone whose application had been misplaced (it does happen). She called to follow up and I told her to email her resume. After reviewing it I called her for an interview and she was hired for the position.

Oh, job hunting sucks! I’m having the same problem as I want to get a different job than I have now. I hear a lot of “we’ll be reviewing all applicants and getting in touch with those we want to speak with.” *sigh*

There has to be something easier. And honestly, although here we have a few places that offer benefits after 30 days, frankly, they’re benefits that look good on paper but suck totally when you use them!

The idea of waiting from an application is quite exciting for those who really want the job so they might periodically call back for the result. If there aren’t any for your case, maybe you have quite unconvincing offers. Just what I think.

Oh, I hate waiting for replies for applications. Nerve wracking. Hope it all goes well for you.
