Protect Against Identity Theft

Last year, when I camped out in front of Office Depot in order to buy my beautiful Toshiba laptop I kept glancing at the advertisement on the window for Lifelock. When I walked inside there was a small stand with signup pamphlets for lifelock. Naturally though, since I was in a throng of fellow Black Friday shoppers I didn’t pay it much mind and instead ran to get the items I wanted before they were sold out.

The advertisements left a lasting impression though. Without looking at all of the details I could tell you it was some form of identity theft protection. Why did this leave a lasting impression? I attribute it to the cardboard cutout of the CEO holding his social security card and stating what his real social security number was. I kept thinking the guy had to be a total moron to just give that out. In actual though, he does it because he is just that confident in his business.

LifeLock is an identity theft protection program that is concerned with your good name and credit. For $10 a month they’ll protect your identity and personal information. Not to mention it comes with an up $1,000,000 guarantee. Your name, your identity will be protected and keep other people from stealing in your name, and for only $10. That’s really amazing, not to mention I’m sure the people using the service sleep well at night. When my mother’s purse was stolen out of her car we had quite the fright trying to cancel all her credit cards and put a freeze on all of her accounts. Of course, with the freeze, it also meant her funds were out of her reach. That was a real scare and annoyance. If $10 a month would help keep the fright at bay I’d say it’s worth it.

There are talk radio commercials for LifeLock all of the time. I also hear endorsements for Identity Theft Protection from xander.com. Apparantly xander does all of the work for you if you identity is stolen. It might be better…
