Why is it people always have to bother you when you’re in the middle of something? To make matters worse, they offer some sorry comment like “oh, you’re busy” and then just keep on bothering you. Why? Here I am in the middle of writing of something and people have to keep coming and bothering me with nonsensical things.

My grandfather is the worst culprit. He went outside to feed the dogs, then came back in. Since he had been on the phone I had absolutely no way of knowing that he was talking to me. Instead my first clue came when he raised his voice, effectively startling the hell out of me, and asked if I was even listening to him. Clearly I wasn’t since I didn’t acknowledge anything he said. Needless to say this resulted in a minor screaming match between him and me.

I pointed out that he was on the phone earlier. He responded that I should have known that he was talking to me and had ended the phone call. I tried to logically point out to him that the only way to have known was to eavesdrop on him, which is rude. He blithely ignored this comment. Then he noticed that I had been busy “with that computer language stuff” (read: he noticed I was coding some pages) and apologized for interrupting, albeit in a snippy tone, and left.

Or so I thought.

Five minutes later he comes back and informs me that it apparently rained again last night. I honestly did not know what to say to this observation, so I just nodded and made a noise of agreement and continued working.

I then promptly got yelled at again and he stormed out muttering about bats ignoring their elders and not feeling wanted in the house.
