On this Day I am Thankful

I know that, for most people, Thanksgiving isn’t really about being thankful anymore. It’s about stuffing our faces, watching football, and getting ready for the biggest shopping day of the year (Black Friday). In our family however, we try to always reflect on what we have to be thankful for this year, although yeah, the Cowboys’ game always is hovering in the back of the minds of my grandfather and I.
This year however I have a lot to be grateful for and I would like to take a moment to acknowledge those things. I am very grateful for…
- The good health of my family. This past summer we had quite the scare when my grandfather went into the hospital for surgery. He had a hernia that was removed and there was the possibility that he might have prostate cancer. The hernia was safely removed and the surgery revealed that there was no cancer as well. We were very fortunate that my grandfather did well, especially when the simple in and out procedure was complicated and he had to stay over the weekend.
- Despite some people’s best attempts, our family history and heritage is still intact. My great aunt (grandfather’s sister) has been trying to sell the house and part of the farm land that belonged to my great-grandmother. It’s been in the family for generations, has withstood the test of time, and thankfully no one has come forward to buy it.
- Many people are being laid off and unable to find a job, despite not being able to put my degree to use yet, I do have a job now and a steady flow of income coming in weekly. I have the oppurtunity to earn what most would make every two weeks on a weekly basis with commission, and even if I don’t hit commission, I still receive a very decent pay. My bills are getting paid and I am able to save some away courtesy of my online ventures as well.
- I fully own my own car and have one less monthly expense to worry about now since I paid off the lien on Pyro (my car) in September and received the title in full in October.
- Despite my loner tendencies, I have faithful friends who understand my hardships and stick by me through thick and thin. I might seem to drop off the face of the earth due to depression, but they’re there for me when I’ve pulled my head out of my ass and are there to give me the push that I need.
- I have a loving family that cares about my achievements, big and small, and are happy to see me happy. I do not worry about disappointing them because I know that, if I do my best, then they’re proud regardless.
- I have three beautiful pets (Isis, Denali, and Shizuku) who love me unconditionally, regardless of the fact that sometimes I just don’t have much time to spend with them. These three are always there when I need them and know exactly when I need someone cute and furry to hug. And they even know when I desperately need a little humor in my life.
- My mother had a very easy time preparing the Thanksgiving meal this year, and as a result of me winning the turkey dinner that my job was giving away, we already have part of the Christmas dinner bought and ready. So despite the state of the economy, we have food on our table and are not left wanting.
These are just some of the things I am most thankful for this Thanksgiving day. So from me to you, I wish all my readers a Happy Thanksgiving day. May you have plenty on your table this day and the upcoming days, may your family be together and in good health, and of course, may the Dallas Cowboys win today.
Happy Thanksgiving!
