Not Looking Forward to Buying New Cell Phones

My mother’s cell phone isn’t doing so hot right now. Considering she managed to drop it on the concrete sidewalk and in the middle of a large puddle of water it’s very understandable. Apparently it slipped out of her bag and she didn’t hear it, it was raining after all, and only noticed it’s absence later when she couldn’t find it anywhere. Since the Verizon Wireless‘ store is notoriously busy at any given time I suggested she look online at a site like bestincellphones.com to see if anything caught her attention.
Granted, her phone does still work, but it has some very noticeable problems functioning correctly.
Since my grandfather is still harping on getting one for himself (I have scary nightmares of him driving down the road yacking on the phone) we’re considering looking at different providers, such as at&t or Sprint. Verizon is great, but there are definately better, read: more cost-effective, family plans being offered by the other providers.
Since I’m free of a contract right now, and still completely in love with my phone, a glorious Samsuch SCH-a950, I have no intention of giving it up. Great reception, no antenna that sticks out and gets broken off, and I can listen to and download music (among other things) on it. Need I go on?
It is fun teasing my grandfather about getting matching pink cell phones though.
Given my general dislike of the color he should know that I would never willingly pick a phone in that color. His horror blinds him to this obvious fact though.
Despite looking over other plans in the off-chance that we decide to switch providers we haven’t even glanced at T-Mobile. Past experiences left us with a foul taste in our mouths.
I gotta admit, looking at cell phones online sure beats visiting the brick and mortar stores. No pushy sales-folks rushing you into a purchase that will most likely drain your pocket and not suit your needs. Not to mention, it is cheaper!

I have Verizon and our family plan isn’t too bad. Around here AT&T and Sprint are the worst plans to get. Sometimes I think it varies by area, because when I lived in Texas, AT&T was the BEST cell company going.
I have a Samsung Juke now and I wouldn’t give it up for anything! This phone is gonna have to die before I give it up! LOL
We’re on AT&T here in atlanta, and everywhere I’ve traveled so far has been good…
Of course, it will be a cold day in hell when my Blackberry is pried from my clutches….
I’m using ATT, haven’t really had any problems with them.
As a note, if you ever mess up a phone while under contract, just go buy one of the cheap, prepaid phones at Walmart. A month or so ago I had my phone stolen at work, and when I went to talk to the people at the ATT store, I was told it would be at least $120 to replace it. Instead, the guy just made a new SIMM card for me, I went out and get a go-phone (the ATT prepaid phone), and I’m loving it, I almost prefer it to my old phone.
As long as you make sure to match providers (ie, Don’t get a go phone if you’re on Sprint) they’re great. For around $15 you can get a super stripped down phone, its great if you’re worried about taking your phone with you some place for any reason. The best part is, since these things don’t have all the crazy features, it gets amazing battery life. One a 1 hour charge I can get 9 hours of talk time, or 2 weeks in standby mode.
Thats good idea for new cell phone buyers.
