I Never Saw That Before

Ramblings, Shopping - - Posted on May, 13 at 9:44 pm

I recently reordered some more business magnets for my mother, as the first ones were a total hit, and while browsing around Vista Print I came upon a rather interesting discovery. They make car magnets too. Am I the only one who never noticed this? Probably the reason this made such a lasting impression on me is the recent antics of one of my mom’s clients. Want to hear the story? Well since you’re here I’m assuming you do. Here’s the bare bones of the story, no names or anything.

One of my mother’s clients had a huge profit this year and very little expenses to go against it. To offset it, he wanted to write off his new truck that he bought at the end of 2007 as a business expense. Problem was, this guy (as you might have guessed) didn’t use his truck for business purposes only. In fact he hardly ever uses his truck for business, aside from when he drives it up to the office to get his books done. The truck never sees the construction sites and instead is mostly used for personal business. When she pointed this out the guy decided that buying some magnets for the doors or a window decal would make it a business vehicle and he could take the full value of the truck. Obviously that’s not right and he could only take the price of the door magnets or decal and place that under advertising. It’s amazing what people will try to do to offset their income and create a “loss”.

Still though, I was amazed to see Vista Print made door magnets for your vehicle and that they’re so cheap too. A small one is only $9.99 and a large magnet is only $15.99. That’s really not that bad at all. Especially since the print shop that’s located down the street from my office charges a “special” on their medium-sized magnets - two for $39.99. Judging by the picture that Vista Print provides on their site, the local print shop’s medium size is about the size of, or just a tad bigger, than VP’s small. I know you always pay more at a brick and mortar store, because they have to raise the prices to cover rent and payroll obviously, but it still always amazes me to see how much of a difference it can sometimes be.

I didn’t know that, the vista magnets are quite a bit cheaper.
I did that to get my laptop lol. My uncle said it was for office use and the VAT got taken off the price.

Wow I can’t believe that guy tried to do that. Some people will do anything they can to try to cheat the system, huh?

Hah, when it comes to taxes people stretch it as far as they can to have less taxable income. That’s cool that vista print does car magnets too.
