I Must Ask

What the hell is up with this?

I took this the other night when I was coming home, so the prices are a little old, but the method of pricing remains the same. Is anyone else being scalped at the pumps just because they use their debit or credit card? In case you can’t quite see the small lettering under the prices, the sign reads:
Unleaded – cash – 3.15
Unleaded – Texaco card – 3.15
Unleaded – Debit/Credit card – 3.22
None of the other gas station out here do this, jus the Texaco. And from I’ve seen from the ones in El Paso and Las Cruces, again, I’m not seeing it.
At one point the price for gas, if you paid cash, was even lower than the price Texaco card users paid. Is that fucked up or what?

It makes sense. They’re just passing the cost on to the consumer. Since the credit card companies charge them, they make less when you use them, by raising the price of gas for credit cards, they make you pay that fee instead.
Now, its still not cool, but it makes sense…
I’ve never seen that. I’ve seen the three different prices for unleaded, the medium thing, and premium, but I have never seen a different price tag for a credit card purchase at a gas pump. That is soo odd.
That was like that when I was up in NY. only certain gas stations would actually have decent prices the other ones where all jacked up.
Yeah it makes sense – credit card companies charge a fee, and they business is just passing the cost on. Annoying, but yeah…
One gas station did that in my hometown and tons of people complained. I don’t know if they still do it, but they took the sign down.
Gas is down around $2.25/gal here. Which is nice, but I don’t think it will last past the election.
I’m in the UK and I’ve never seen that pricing done over here. I understand why they do it, we used to have a shop and know how the credit card companies charge a percentage of the sale price. Having said that, we were a small gallery, these are multi national companies already making vast profits. I don’t think they should pass this charge on to the consumer.
