I Hate Being in the Boonies (Sometimes)

Rants and Raves, Work - - Posted on November, 26 at 2:18 pm

Just got a call a few minutes ago informing me that I don’t need to come in until 4pm today instead of 3pm.

And that, dear readers, is the reason why I sometimes hate living out as far as I do. People tend to forget that, since I live so far away, I need a decent amount of time for a head’s up when it comes to schedule changes. David, one of my supervisors, called and reached me right as I was checking out at the little grocery store here in my village. Had I not stopped to buy a couple of bottles of water and a bottle of tea I would have already been on the interstate and on my way to work.

I told him it was a good thing he called when he did, because otherwise, had I already been well and truly on my way to work I might have been upset. He was actually surprised I was leaving when he called. “It’s only 2 o’clock”, he exclaimed.

Honestly, these guys know I live in New Mexico, not Texas. That right there should tell them that I’ve got some distance to travel, what with Anthony being the closest “New Mexico” town to El Paso and all and that’s a good twenty miles outside of the city limits of El Paso, and DialAmerica is clear across the other side of El Paso.

So now I’m sitting here cooling my heels for an hour before I leave for work.

Wow, at least they got you before you started driving. But yea, people need to understand that people travel far to get to work sometimes.
