Discover Card is Pissing Me Off

Last month was a very slow month for me, financially speaking, and as a result some of my payments weren’t as big as they normally are. In Discover card’s case I made a partial payment since I couldn’t make a full payment. I could have either made a full payment on Discover and not be able to pay other bills, or do a partial and everybody gets something. I thought that was a smart thing to do, apparently Discover card disagrees.

So instead of the annoying letters in the mail promoting small business opportunities with Discover, I’ve now been subjected to at least two daily phone calls about being behind on payment. It’s not like I didn’t pay at all, I put down some and have the intention of paying the rest when I get money deposited into my account. I spoke with a representative when they called, explained this, and get this, they’re still calling daily. What the fuck? Why waste my time and your resources? You’re gonna get the same answer, nothings going to change since I can’t pay you with what I don’t have. Duh!

Maybe it has something to do with the snarky rep I had to deal with? She couldn’t seem to understand that I would make at least a $50 payment this week and then finish the rest when the rest of money is deposited (like $30 I think?). She was all “well, you’ll be reported to the credit bureau if at least $XX isn’t paid by the 27th. Wow. Since when does a single late or partial payment result in that?

Anyway, I honestly don’t understand why they keep bugging. My payments are usually on time, or they clear a day late at most. One time I don’t get to make a full payment and they’re jumping down my throat? The hell?!

    Unfortunately, having worked for a credit card company before, I know how they work. They’ll threaten anything they can to get you to make that payment but still, they shouldn’t be bothering you for only one payment, and definitely once you spoke to a rep, you should not be receiving any more phone calls. That is harassment – but I’d be willing to bet that rep you spoke to never put a single note on your account about what you told her, which is why you’re getting calls. Believe me, they won’t quit until you make the payment.

    This is why I refuse to ever work for the credit card industry again. They absolutely do not care about anything but that payment and they have absolutely no brains when it comes to trying to collect.

    That’s really crazy. Don’t credit cards have a realllly low minimum payment anyway so that they can earn interest on your balance?

    @Julie
    They do have low payments, but depending on the balance, it may be a lot to some people. They make their minimum over what your normal finance charge is, but under so it’s not seen as a big bill.

    Still, that sucks that they keep calling you. Your phone calls with Discover remind me of the ones I keep having to make to Linksys. :grr: :dead:

    Trust me when I say, I FEEL YOU on this one. The absolute worst mistake I ever made was getting a credit card of any kind. I made a bunch of dumb purchases, and have just recently (finally) got Discover and the gang to stop calling me. And you’re right…they’re your best friend when you’re paying on time, but they turn into the Gestapo if you’re even a minute late. I do believe in paying on time, but everybody has run into a financial crunch of one kind or another at some time in their lives. At that point man, if you ain’t got it, you ain’t GOT it!!! .
