Credit Card Woes and Identity Theft

Ugh. There is a certain credit card company I cannot wait to be rid. Mysterious “member fees” that always manage to undo any progress I’ve made to paying off the bill and an annual percentage rate that rises and rises and rises some more. I’ve had enough and canceled the cards today. I got so very tired of their fraud protection plan causing me to go “over my limit” despite not being anywhere near the limit and having to fight with them. Even after canceling the protection things didn’t get better, so they went buh-bye.
Now, I have always been very paranoid about identity theft, so that just goes to show how fed up with them I was, if I canceled the fraud protection. Did you know that, according to consumeraffairs.com, identity theft has topped the FTC’s complaint list for seven years straight now? That is seriously scary, especially when other reports suggest it’s been on a steady rise. Definitely makes you glad that programs like lifelock exist. Gives you some peace of mind knowing that, should someone attempt to steal your identity, they’ll be stopped in their tracks before they can drag your name through the mud.
And really, this service is ideal for anyone, business owners, your average-Joe, and even children. Perhaps, especially children, since their identity is most often stolen since (being children) theirs is not regularly checked.

I don’t own a credit card… but I think that Identity theft will help me (when the time comes) to not become dependent on a credit card. Because with today’s technologies and crazy people in our society… you never know who could be out there. Its scary. Not to mention, its probably safer to stay away from using credit cards more than you have to…
Just thought you would be interested in knowing that the Federal Reserve and Congress are considering changes in policy to end the misleading and deceptive practices of credit card companies.
