BTT: The End

You’ve just reached the end of a book . . . what do you do now? Savor and muse over the book? Dive right into the next one? Go take the dog for a walk, the kids to the park, before even thinking about the next book you’re going to read? What?
This week’s BTT question is going to be a bit long winded. Brace yourselves.
Now, generally when I get to the end of a book I like to think back on it. What did I like, what didn’t I like? Were there certain parts that really stood out to me? Those are things I ask myself and reflect on. Upon completion of a book I also tend to go back to certain parts of a book and re-read that section. Sometimes I missed a clue, and at the story’s conclusion, I have to go back and read it again. Or, in the case of a series, I like to go back to sections that I feel are going to be important latter on down the road and carefully analyze and imprint them in my memory.
And of course, depending on how good (or horribly bad) the book was and the impression it left on me I’ll boot up the computer, open up a word document, and start typing my thoughts on it.
When it comes to series, I tend to get a bit crazy. You might see me going “No! You can’t leave it there!”.
If it’s a series that is already a few books long that I’ve just gotten into, you can expect me to make a mad dash for my computer to look up the series online. Since I’m always looking out for the best buy when it comes to purchasing anything, I’ll do a quick price comparison of the list price (price I can expect to pay in a brick and mortar store) and the online price plus shipping and handling. If I end up deciding to go to a store, I’ll jot down the series titles in order and scurry over to a store.
If the book was especially bad, you’ll see me mulling over the series as a whole and seriously think about where it all started, who has come and gone in the series, and how the characters have developed. That’s not to say I don’t do that with the books I enjoyed, I just tend to obsess over the details more when it comes to the really bad additions to a series. The point? To see if the series is progressing in a logical fashion or the books seem to have run amok and dragged the author along for the ride. Depending on my conclusion, I’ll either give the next book a chance or swear off the series.

Hah I’m like that too, I have to think about what I just read and see if I missed something along the way. Though, I find it nearly impossible to find things. How do you go back and find things?
My answer was also long winded. Since most of my books I give away one way or another, I wrote about how I give my books away when I’m done reading them.
