A Potpie Rant in E Minor

Food and Drink - - Posted on August, 26 at 1:53 am

Potpies. As a kid I never really cared much for them. In fact, if the adults were having potpies for dinner they better damn well have picked up one of my favorite tv dinners; because otherwise I wasn’t eating. End of story. Somewhere along the line that changed and I grew to like them. At least I grew to like the beef ones, the chicken ones just stated fake and the turkey are nasty.

I’ve always preferred the ones from Banquet because they were easier on the wallet but taste just as good. It’s actually been a while since I’ve had a potpie though so I ended up picking up a couple not that long ago, but these were different. Instead of cooking them in the oven you cooked them in the microwave. I thought that might be rather nifty, but instead it had this nasty after taste that I couldn’t get rid of until I brushed my teeth out and rinsed with mouthwash. I vowed to stick with the oven-only ones.

I’ve been craving potpies recently, so when I went to Wal-Mart earlier I thought to pick up a couple. Problem, they all had that blue ribbon on them that proclaimed Microwave. I swear I walked up and down the entire freezer section but all the Banquet potpies were the microwave ones.

Does this mean they no longer make the ones that can be cooked in the oven? Am I now stuck with the nasty aftertaste potpies of doom?

Banquet, what the hell happened?!

The only ones I know of that are still oven-only are the Wal-Mart brand ones and I’m not sure if they are even still doing those. Everything seems to be microwave ready these days. :(
