A New Stew Favorite

A friend from work made an awesome green chili meat stew for the potluck we had last Thursday - it was absolutely divine. And since I was sick, the stew really hit the spot. I asked her for the recipe and she gave it to me a few days ago, well I put it on late this afternoon (early evening) and we had it for a late dinner. It tasted just as good and was a big hit with the family. There was barely any left! I think there is enough for everyone to have one bowl each tomorrow and that’s it, it was that well loved. I ended up making the beef version of the stew this time around, but my co-worker made the pork version for the potluck. Both versions taste awesome so if you prefer one over the other, dont hesitate to switch pork for beef.
I love this recipe so much, I thought I would share it with my readers. Hey, it’s winter time. The temperature is dropping and colds are running rampant. Get some hearty stew in you!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef stew meat (or pork)
- 1 medium onion
- 3 lrg carrots
- 1 can diced tomatoes (don’t drain)
- 1 can beef broth
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 tbl sp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tbl sp Liquid Smoke
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 5 potatoes
- 1 package sliced mushrooms
- 5 lg green chilies
Directions: Mix all ingredients in slow cooker, adding the meat last on top. Let cook on high for 6 hours then stir meat together. Cook for one more hour then serve.
To add some more kick, make sure to use Barker chili and even throw in a few dried peppers.

Stews are great, especially when cooked slowly like that. What in the world is liquid smoke though?
