A Hopping and Flapping Breakfast Menu

Paw Prints - 8 Comments » - Posted on August, 15 at 11:42 am

Last night’s rain brought out a host of interesting creatures. Flies and mosquitoes are buzzing about, grasshoppers and toads are hopping in the grass, and baby birds are fluttering out of their nests. Oh yes, Denali says her breakfast menu is packed full of yummy goodies!

Initially Denali was going to start off light. She rounded up a light green grasshopper, and just when it looked like she had made her selection, Denali decided to keep browsing the menu in the hope of locating something more filling. Denali chased two different immature toads out of the lawn, she just couldn’t decide which one she liked better, and had a blast chasing them into dead ends. Literally. Denali was quite amused when she could steer them to the wall of the house and get them to jump headlong into it.

Eventually she allowed me to take a few pictures, namely of the slightly plumper one. In the end, she was more interested in the one with the lean trim. She’s got to keep her girlish figure after all!

After starting off with something light, as toads and grasshoppers (at least small toads) really aren’t that filling, Denali decided to move straight to the main course. She is a very active kitty after all, thus she needs to be sure to start her day off right with a balanced and filling meal.

While perusing the menu we heard a faint but sweet sound coming from above us. We glanced up in time to see a cute little beak pop up over the rim of the sparrow’s nest under the carport. After a moment’s pause, the baby sparrow decided to flutter its wings and attempt flight. Within moments Denali’s next course was fluttering down. Ah, food and entertainment. Could it get any better?

Have no fear, no wildlife was injured in the making of this post. Although some were rightfully terrified. ;)

Isn’t not killing unusual for Denali? I am glad that she had so much fun and nothing really got hurt.

    Angela,

Alas, I don’t have to feed her those things. She happily hunts them down of her own accord. Natural born huntress that one is. Thanks! I loved the name as well the first time I heard. :)

    Karen Jo,

Indeed, it is unusual for her not to kill things, but I managed to keep her back. Well, I do think she gobbled a few grasshoppers while I was busy…but I kept the baby bird safe and helped him back to his nest. I received quite the fierce kitty-glare for that one!

Aww! Adorable cat! 8D I have 2 myself. One likes to just pick up dead birds, and the other kills anything that twitches even slightly. So we try to limit the whole hunter thing. Poor birds XD

That definitely would have been amusing to watch. I’m glad that both Denali and yourself had a good time with all of the wildlife.

Do you not feed her? Or does she just like the variety of creatures she could possibly eat outside? I don’t even want to think of what Bindi would eat if she were allowed outside. I know the toads in our garden wouldn’t last very long at all.

Well I’m glad you didn’t actually feed all that to your cat. She’d surely have gotten indigestion after all that. Cute though.
