A Box Full of Receipts

It’s a nice Saturday morning, cloudy, slight chill, but no wind. Very nice. Perfect opportunity to lay out on the lawn with my laptop and get some work done. Right? Wrong! I saw my mother lugging in two big boxes of paper and I, mistakenly, asked if she needed any help. She agreed happily and handed one of the boxes to me and directed me to carry it into the living room, where two other boxes already sat.

That should have been my first clue to run.

Instead I stuck around a split second too long and before I knew it my sentence hand been handed down. Apparantly the boxes were full of receipts, statements, and invoices from one of her larger clients. Guy is so going to totally owe, but he does have a lot of expenses to use against the profit he made that need to be taken into account. Too bad the sucker isn’t neat about it. Before she turned to leave to go to work she instructed me to go through the boxes and weed out expenses from draws and since the guy doesn’t have a log to justify the food receipts (e.g: Denny’s McDonald’s) just to set those aside for now as draws, but in a serparate stack and we’ll see if he can justify any of them to be used for meals and entertainment. And with that, she thanked me for volunteering and breezed on out to work. :wtf:

Methinks my offer of help got misinterpreted.

I’ve gone through one box so far, and it’s gone something like this: business performance management software – expense; McDonalds – draw.

Me and my damn fool mouth.

Wow, that really sucks that you got stuck working with boxes of receipts. I suppose you should know to hide during the entire tax season.

Heheheh… this time of year my family is too scared to hide. They just do whatever I say. They are trained well *laugh*

I had one client that graduated to Macy’s bags. Thank goodness I’ve grown to where I hire out those jobs. I hate the receipt sorting stuff. I can’t wait until my kids get older so I can employ me some child labor ;)

Wow, you got totally sucked into that. I figure that you asked to help out because she was carrying a bunch of stuff and your opinion of helping was to carry them to wherever she needed, but instead… she roped you in.

I never quite understood what keeping receipts meant. I mean, what could you do with them, especially for a student like me? I don’t keep my cash receipts but I will keep my credit/debit card receipts, just to make sure. I’ve never used them for tax purposes though.
