Who Says Junk Mail is Junk?

Seriously, I’m not sure how I got on Camel’s mailing list but I don’t mind it in the least!

Camel's presentI got this rectangular blue box in the mail today with the infamous Camel insignia on it and was utterly perplexed. Before I even opened it up I went and checked all of my credit card statements online, no unauthorized transactions made themselves known to me so with some trepidation and twice as much as excitement I opened it up. What did I find? A very nifty booklet detailing all of their available flavors, a packet of four coupons (each worth a $1.75 off of one pack), and the best part of all, a brand new refillable lighter!

Being the pyromaniac that I am I naturally whipped out the lighter first and gave it a try. I honestly didn’t expect it to light since it did come to me via the USPS and they have a ban on sending flammable objects through the mail, hell they even through a bitch fit at Avon for sending perfume and bodyspray, so it didn’t seem likely that there would be anything in the lighter.

My pretty new lighterGood thing my face wasn’t too close I’d have lost some eyebrows. Yes, the lighter had fluid in it! So I sat there for a bit flicking my new lighter on and off like a maniac.

It’s a really cute lighter too. It’s a nice metallic magenta in color with cute rhinestones in the center. Definitely the most feminine lighter I have. Even my slim dragon one looks manly compared to this baby, but I like it. Too bad my phone’s camera doesn’t do it justice though. :( I really need to get me a real digital camera someday.

Edit: Oh now this is funny, in the box there is a nice little 60 day warranty for my lighter which even says that the lighter “does not come loaded with fluid”. Better check again boys. Good thing this came to my PO box address and not the physical. Eek, can you imagine if this sat out in a metal mailbox in direct sunlight in 100+ degree weather for a couple of hours? BADA-BOOM!

I’m not much of a smoker though and when I do get the urge my brand of choice is Virginia Slims, or if I can’t find them, Marlboro’s. I have tried and liked Camel’s special flavors, you know the ones that came in the tins, so I might mosey on down to the gas station (where the Camels are thankfully really cheap compared to elsewhere) and pick up a pack.

It’s not quite dark, but I am wearing sunglasses, I know my car has half a tank of gas, and now I just need the pack of cigarettes. Corny, pop culture reference I know. Next I’ll be pulling out our old folding poker tables and busting out with the cheesy green visor.

Yes yes, I know, I’m a dork. And if Mayra reads this post (which is entirely a possibility since she’s proven she’s lurker ;) ) I know the first thing she’s going to say is Bad Joana!!

How neat to get such a good sample and bypass flammable laws lol. But the lighter is pretty. I wonder how they looked you up with the PO BOX and decided to mail you a sample package. Interesting.

    Karyn,

Free lighters are awesome aren’t they? Hell, anything free is good in my book. I’ve seen the torch grenade one you’re talking about. Can’t remember where though, I remember cracking up after seeing it though.

    Julie,

Hehe, bypassing the federal laws is always a trip! But yeah, I do kind of wonder how they got a hold of my name. My guess is somewhere along the line when I signed up for something that was restricted to people over 18 years of age it also had a question about smoking. That list probably got sold to Camel who then mailed out goodies to the people on it.

If they were trying to entice smokers it worked. ;)

When I used to smoke, that’s what I loved were the special flavors. My favorites were a minty-chocolate flavor that at the moment I can’t remember the name of. :)

    Charity,

Ah, I know exactly which flavor you’re talking about, it’s one of my favorites. :) It’s called Dark Mint. Mmm, that one is yummy.

That’s pretty cool! I want to get on Camel’s mailing list… Their specialty cigs, the ones that come in the tin, are pretty good; but I bought some one time and got sick of them after a while. I guess they are not a cigarette to smoke daily, but rather on “special” occasions.

    Anna,

Yeah, that’s the only thing about flavored cigarettes. They’re much like flavored and the stronger cigars in that aspect, great on occasion but not something you want to smoke a lot of in a roll. :)
