This is Alarming

We all feel safe and secure in our houses right? I mean they are, after all, our sanctuaries. If you’re feeling scared or troubled just retreat to the safety and comfort of your home and lock the door, that’s all it takes.

Now watch this video and tell me you still feel safe.

Approximately 99% of the current locks in use today are not bump key safe. What does this mean? It means that any Joe-schmoe can waltz into your “safe” and “secure” sanctuary with a single bump key. No fuss, no muss and they’re in your home. That just wigs me out. As someone whose home was burglarized once, let me tell you that it never feels quite the same afterwards. You’ve always felt safe and secure in your home but the minute that you realized that it can be easily broken into you never truly return to that safe feeling. Always in the back of your mind there is this nagging little voice that reminds you that no matter how many locks you put on your door or how pricey your security system is it can be breeched by someone.

With the dawn of the information age now the know-how behind thievery and other nefarious deeds can be disassembled nation and even globally wide. Where does it end? When can we feel safe in our homes again? Does blogging about this even help to spread the awareness or am I instead just making it easier for future cat burglars to get clued in to the trade?

For those who want to increase their level of safety and comfort there is the option of buying bump key proof locks to help better protect your home. No doubt you can also add on a few extra little toppings to turn your home into a real-live Fort Knox as well. If you have the money I really don’t see why not.

But do any of us really feel safe in our homes anymore?

My parents saw something about that on TV and are changing the locks. Good thing too, because with the people living on our street… you never know.
