She’s Not the Smartest Kitty Around

But she is the most daring, or should I say stupid? It was around 7 this morning and there I was, happily sleeping in my nice warm bed when I was rudely awoken by the sound of a huge crash and things raining down onto the floor.
I was wide awake in an instant, and just in time to see Denali jumping down from my tv and hightailing it out of my room. Isis, who are curled up with me, was wide-eyed and terrified before she ducked under the covers and refused to come out. Considering my reaction when I realized what Denali had done, I can’t say I blame her.
On a shelf above my tv I have my collection of books by L.J. Smith, it includes all of the Night World series, as well as the Dark Visions Trilogy, serving as book ends are two Dragonware cups with lids on them. Well apparently Denali thought it would be a fun way to wake me up by sending everything on the shelf to the floor.
More than likely this was a combined result of her inability to go outside, she loves the outdoors, and my mother’s unwillingness to feed her since she’s on medications and my mother didn’t want to mess up the dosages.
Thankfully the Dragonware didn’t break, didn’t even crack, but two out of three figurines I had on the tv stand were not so lucky. The lids from the dragonware managed to decapitate one of my geisha figurines and smash the arm off another one.
To say I was livid and ready to commit murder would be an understatement. My mother wisely got Denali out of my sight, and after cleaning up the mess and crawling back into bed I hoped I’d feel a little better.
Nope, still bitter. Denali seemed to think what she had done was cute, despite getting swatted and told she was bad, up until I gave her her meal and meds. Normally I give her a big serving of canned cat food and hide the meds inside so sh never has to taste them. This time she got a very tiny amount of canned cat food, just enough to make the meds easier to swallow, and it was followed by some dry cat food. Isis on the other hand, got a whole can of cat food to herself. Judging by Denali’s very sad and put-upon expression she finally understood that what she had done was bad. Little late for the revelation though.
I guess the bright side of this is that I found some old advertising pens on the shelf that were starting to leak. I wouldn’t have wanted that inky mess all over my books. Still though, that’s a small consolation in the grand scheme of things.

How very sad for your figurines that lost their head or limb. Hopefully a bottle of superglue can make them good as new? Kitties are so silly sometimes, but do you really think she did it on purpose, like actually pushing things, or was it more accidental of her just walking around the bookshelf and accidentally kicking something over?
Julie,
The one that lost the arm might be fixable, but the decapitated one is a lost cause.
Do I think it was intentional or accidental? Intentional, without a doubt. The cats are not allowed on tabletops, desks, counters, or shelves. They know this and it’s one of the first things they learn. The fact that she deliberately jumped up onto two areas (tv and shelf) that she knows she’s not supposed to be is proof enough of that. =/
Besides, she is the trouble maker of the two.
Grrrrr. My cat gets up on the top of my bookcase, which he’s not allowed up there, and knocks things off whenever he’s upset with me. He’s a brat. The only places he won’t go are my mantle (he can’t jump high enough) and my desk. Other than that, he thinks it’s all fair game if he can reach it when he’s upset.
Sorry to hear about your figurines, thought.
