Now Onto the Final Exams

Well I just got out of my practical exam for Anth 355. There were, of course, questions on there that were in no way listed on the study sheet, of course. With this professor it’s a given he’s going to do that now.

He seems to like fucking with people’s minds. During our practical exam he walked around and handed our papers back to us, face side up. You couldn’t help but to see the comments since they were done in this glaring red ink. Talk about a perfect way to blow your student’s concentration! :grr: What actually made me start to cry and just want to walk out though was to see half of the first page marked up and crossed out. I made the mistake to turn to the back and see the score. 117 out of a possible 150, for those too lazy to do the math that’s a 79%. He gave me a fucking C! Why? Because apparently he didn’t like the tone of my paper I got docked a lot of points. Excuse me? Since when was this an English class?! :yell: I have never gotten a B on a paper before, let alone a C, this is so unbelievable and ludicrous it’s not even in any way funny.

I’ve emailed him asking for my current grade and a ballpark figure of what I need to get on the final to pass the class and if it’s even feasible at this point to pass. Because frankly, I don’t think it is. I needed that A on the paper, I was counting on it. Even if I get an A on the practical, I don’t think it’s enough to save me; yes even counting in the 100 points extra credit. So if it’s not even feasible, or it would take my getting a 98% or better on a cumulative exam that covers material that royally fucked me up before, than I’m not even going to bother studying. Why waste my time on it when I have no shot when I can study for those that I still have hope for?

The shit is, if I don’t pass this course I can kiss my minors good by and I’m just graduating with my Bachelor’s.

:wtf: I HATE when teachers/professors do that. I can understand wanting you to use proper English, but let’s be serious here. If the paper isn’t for English class it doesn’t need to be absolutely perfect.

That really sucks and I feel horrible for you. I swear, that professor sounds like a royal ass. Pardon my language.

Oh Joanana, I’m so sorry to hear about your asswipe professor giving you a lousy grade on the anthropology paper. :( That totally sucks. What’s the big deal about the “tone” of the essay or whatever? In anthropology, I wouldn’t have thought it should matter. Maybe you could talk to whoever’s higher up in the food chain than your professor about what you need to do to pass the course, and see if they might let you do some more extra credit work. I really hope you’re able to keep your minors…after all your hard work, it would be totally unfair to only end up with the bachelor’s (not that that that’s bad, but you know what I mean). Good luck hon. *hug*

    Charity,

Thanks hun, yeah I’m still not sure what was wrong with my paper’s tone. It was a research paper, but we had to give our opinions on the researched we looked into, which I did, but that was apparently too “conversational”. I guess I forgot to talk down to the reader and act like I know everything.

    Aly,

I would go to my department head, except for the fact that I still have to take a final in his class. Somehow I can see my tattling affecting that, although it shouldn’t.

The sad thing is, the department head is also his wife. Why do I get the feeling that it wouldn’t do much good in the long run? I did get some good news though so I’m hanging in there and still got a chance.

That’s awful hon :( I’m sorry. Sometimes you just get really really tough professors that are impossible to deal with. I wonder though if you can’t retake something earlier in the semester to help pass the class? All you need is a D to pass, right?
