My Experiance Using Biotene Sensitive Toothpaste

I was recently given a sample of Biotene toothpaste to try. And after using it for a couple of days now I felt ready to share my experiance with my readers.

Loading up my toothbrush with some BioteneAs some may remember [almost] a year ago I traveled across the border to Palomas, Mexico where I finally went to a dentist for a check up and ended up having six cavities filled. Before I had even set foot into the dentist’s office I knew I had some cavities, in fact I expected to get a root canal or teeth pulled since it had been years since I had visited a dentist. Well, aside from having my wisdom tooth that was coming in funky pulled that is. Back then my teeth were sensitive to everything, but especially sweets and cold stuff. It would set my teeth tingling in an almost painful manner. At the time I didn’t know there was such a thing as sensitive toothpaste, but knowing me that was probably a good thing. I might have delayed even longer!

Even now my teeth remain a little sensitive and have a tendency to choose the oddest moments to act up. For the past two days that I have been using Biotene in place of my regular toothpaste I haven’t had any moments of teeth sensitivity, even when I was biting into a wad of sugar and fat that was trying to pass itself off as a pastry, which normally does get a reaction out of me. :yay: Since Biotene is designed to fix the problem and not just mask it, I found that to be really reassuring. :)

I don’t care much for the flavor though. It has this “sort of like bubblegum” flavor that made me think back to the days when I went to the dentist regularly as a kid. There was this funny mold thing (looked a lot like a sport’s mouth guard) in the shape of your teeth that you had to fill with some gunky stuff and then the assistant would shove it your mouth and tell you to bite down and you had to wait some odd minutes for it to get to work on your teeth. There were different flavors, but the bubblegum flavor was the one I selected because it was the one that didn’t make me gag. So it’s not that the flavor is bad per se, just doesn’t bring back fond memories for me. Also, the toothpaste doesn’t sud up like most other toothpastes, so I continuously felt inclined to add more to the toothbrush than was needed to make sure I had enough toothpaste to do the job.

Because I could actually feel a difference I would recommend that anyone with sensitive teeth pick up a tube to use off and on with their regular toothpaste.

Eww, I remember those tooth things that dentists made us have to endure. They always made me want to gag. So yea, a toothpaste that reminds you of that isn’t that pleasant.

    Julie,

That was pretty much my one sole pet peeve, the taste. It brought back memories I’d rather forget. But the taste isn’t so bad and it did work pretty well.

Yea, I wasn’t too fond of the taste of bioteen either, though apparently they add the stuff to specifically give it that sweet taste. Toothpaste should be minty.

Biotene sounds pretty interesting to use, but there are other OTC toothpastes for sensitivity, no? I believe Crest has one out now; I forget the name. But I do know that I’ve seen other pastes out there.

But anyway, at least you found one that really works for you. Yay for pastries and sweets! =)

    mcangeli,

Yeah, minty toothpaste makes sense to me. Sweet stuff, well that it seems incongruous. I mean you’re cleaning your teeth, why have a sweet after taste and feeling as if you didn’t clean your teeth?

    Maria,

You know, I never noticed there were sensitive teeth toothpaste out there. It’s not something I thought of. I switch off between two trusted brands and that’s pretty much it, never really look at the others.
