Is She Ready to Move Forward?

My mother has been seriously considering moving her business from being completely home based, to renting a small office space in town so that the bulk of her work can be done there in stead of on our home network. Home network? Ah, I didn’t mention it? She bought a second desktop, this time with a hell of a lot more RAM, and is planning to network the computers together. As it stands, the current desktop doesn’t have enough memory to run Drake on it without the completely completely slowing down to a halt. But I digress.

The downside to the next step in her plan is that she will have to quit her current job. It can be a hassle to work there as the co-workers aren’t the best, but it does provide a steady paycheck. The thing is, once they realize that she has opened her own bookkeeping service (she’ll only be doing the tax returns for clients not just any old person walking in off the street) they will definately want her to leave. And unfortunately, a lot of the current clients are there only because she’s there. Yes, that means they’ll walk and her current employer is the kind to accuse her of stealing their clients. =/

Understandably she is hesitant to go this extra step, but the way she’s been getting the equipment and what not together and checking out plans, I expect it won’t be long now. The other day she was looking over the pricing plans for phone systems like Talkswitch. It sounds like a good deal and is designed for small businesses. It provides the latest VoIP technology, offers dial tone and broadband internet service, and works for any business that has 2 to 250 users. She would be more than welcome to have my video phone if she needs it, although they do have 15 different brands for her to choose from.

I want to see her succeed and take her small home business and make it into a real revenue generator, and she has the means to do it too. She has a loyal customer base, most of her office equipment is already bought and ready to go, and she has the support of family, friends, and clients. She’s hesitant though, I understand this, but I really want to see her succeed. :)

Good luck to your mom! I run a home bookkeeping service, as you may or may not know. I have expanded to where I have 6 bookkeepers working for me from their homes all over the country. I absolutely LOVE it. It allows my husband and I complete freedom to do what we want to do. Of course, there are times when it’s so busy I’m crazy. That’s the hard part. Dealing with the clients and time crunch. Now is a GREAT time for her to get into it, people are starting to panic about not having their stuff done this year!

    Candy,

Actually richgt now se herself is pressed for time as well. The clients she has already she’s trying to get their stuff together for the fiscal year and ready to be filed and she’s still doing the books at her job and handling tax returns that are already coming in. O.O

Thank you for your support! I hope to someday see her completely living off her very successful business. ^_^

Well I hope your Mom is successful whatever she decides to do. Yes quitting a steady paycheck job is quit scary to start your own business, but also really rewarding I’m sure.
