Help at Risk Youth and Receive a Tax Break

As some know, this semester I’ll be working in the community with at-risk teen girls for my intership with Dr. Eber. I’m excited about this opportunity because it gives me, a normally anti-social person a chance to get around this character flaw of mine and do a little good on top of it. Along with this I’ll be serving as a teacher’s assistant as well so that should be challenging and fun. :)

Sadly enough there aren’t too many programs out there right now that are aimed at helping at-risk children. If you look at it from a Criminal Justice or Anthropological perspective, two totally different interests, you can clearly see that the time to help is when they’re young. Yet no one seems to take an interest until they’re in their mid to late teens. That’s not much help there.

Now I had heard of an organization that took the proceeds from boat donations to fund and build boy’s homes for at risk youth, but I did not realize that they also took Car Donations as well. Car donations, in my opinion, reach a broader range of people than boat donations, so I’m glad to hear they’re not limiting themselves that way.

Of course you might be wondering why someone would donate their old car or boat right? Sometimes it really is too much of a hassle to sell your car, either by yourself or through a dealer, but if you donate it you are given a value for your vehicle that you can then use as an exemption when you file your taxes. So you can sell your vehicle and get next to nothing or you can donate it and get help where you’ll really need it. Decisions, decisions right?

I love those car/boat donation programs. Very awesome of you to work with at risk kids; I enjoy mentoring and encouraging disabled kids to achieve higher goals, and defeat the stereotypes the world has placed on them.
