Has the Dance Begun?

So I’ve been hearing/reading a lot of claims on multiple message boards that the Google PR dance has begun or is about to begin but I haven’t noticed any changes. I’ve been eyeballing my site’s PRs for well over three weeks now, when the first claim that the data centers were moving, and I haven’t seen any change. To be brutally honest I haven’t seen any change in anyone’s sites which leads to believe some people are jumping at shadows. But who knows, I’ve been wrong before and I could be wrong again.

I would hope the PR dance hasn’t ended already because none of my sites so much as twitched and I’d really love to see some of them go up in rank. Though truth be told, if they stayed the same I wouldn’t mind too bad either. At least it would mean they didn’t drop in rank. ;)

In case the PR dance hasn’t begun this is a good time for everyone to get in some last minute brownie points with Google. Get out there and check out the many companies that offer Directory Submission Service and get your site known. Another thing to work on is Contextual Link Building, you want links from relevant and related sites pointing to yours and vice versa. For bloggers some of the best ways to do this is to leave meaningful and relevant comments on blogs of a similar nature to yours. Build a community!

I swear this time, no matter what the outcome may be, I won’t stress out over the PR dance. Well actually I might if I drop, but I hope that doesn’t happen. :) Best of luck to everyone else who are sitting at their computers right now and eyeballing the data centers.

I don’t even get what a “PR Dance” is heh. In any case, hon, your blog is really great and popular and you’re one of the few blogs I read all the time and I even read some of your paid posts. So that should tell you that you’re extra special.

    Mari,

*gasp* You do not know what PR is? For shame! In short, PR is short for Page Rank and is the unique method that Google uses to determine the importance, relevance, and I guess you could say “authority” of a website. While no one is truly 100% sure what the algorithm is that Google uses to determine a site’s PR there are some things that are known. Incoming links from relevant sites help to boost your site’s rank along with traffic and content. The higher the PR your site has the higher a position it will have in the google search engine result pages (SERP).

    Julie,

Thank you hun, that means a great deal. I do know however that I could improve greatly. A PR Dance is just lingo for the period of time that takes place roughly every three months when Google’s datacenters recalculate the number of links to and from a site as well as the activity on said site which determines your site’s page rank. For a quick definition of PR please see my response to Mari’s comment. :)

Well, the dance has begun and I don’t like what the band has done to me so, I really don’t want to pay them!
