I just got back from Dr. Calista’s office a few minutes ago, and I swear, the only thought in Denali’s mind right now, aside from how scared she is, is how much she hates me.

Of the two claws that were ripped out one of them was torn out down to the pulp. Essentially, she declawed herself on one toe. The other one, while being ripped out, will more than likely grow back. In fact, the odds that it won’t grow back are extremely slim. Not so with the one furthest on her paw. Because it was torn down to the pulp it got infected. As soon as Dr. Calista pulled back the scab to get a good look at it we could smell the infection, not good. On top of that, because of the damage, Dr. Calista is going to have to perform an exploratory surgery. Depending on just how deep the damage is, Dr. Calista may have to just remove what is left of the pulp and cauterize it. Which of course means that the claw will never grow back. Unfortunately, Dr. Calista thinks that is probably what will have to happen, the cauterizing that is.

So Denali is getting the surgery done today and she should be ready to go home later today. I just know Denali hates me now, and I can’t really blame her. One minute she’s sleeping peacefully curled up on my bed, the next she’s swooped up and taken to the vet’s. On top of that, tradition dictates that Denali always goes to the vet with Isis in tow, never on her own. The only one who ever has to make trip after trip to the vet for anything is Isis, not Denali. That alone has got to be very disorienting to her. But at least she won’t be in pain any more and her paw can heal properly.

I swear, it’s a good thing I caught that cat when I did. If I had caught him now I would have been tempted to throttle him for the hell Denali is going through. Truth be told, when I passed by my neighbor’s on the way home and saw them outside I was sorely tempted to pull over and give them a piece of my mind. I didn’t though, just kept driving and refused to glance back.
