BTT: Statistics

Yes, ladies and gentlemen it’s that time again…it’s time for the Wheel of Morality!

…er wait..this isn’t Animaniacs!

*cough* Ahem, now let’s try that again. It’s Thursday which means it’s time for this week’s Booking Through Thursday! This week’s question is:

There was a widely bruited-about statistic reported last week, stating that 1 in 4 Americans did not read a single book last year. Clearly, we don’t fall into that category, but . . . how many of our friends do? Do you have friends/family who read as much as you do? Or are you the only person you know who has a serious reading habit?

Sitting here and thinking about it, and I mean seriously thinking about it, I can honestly say that I have no friends or family who read as much as I do. Some of my closest friends do a lot of reading during the semester, but it’s required reading so I don’t count that. Especially since they’re known to skim stuff and get summaries from others as well. The only two people I can think of who read a decent amount, my mother and my friend M, and they really don’t have much time for leisure reading so the quantity they do read is rather minimal.

To be brutally honest, for a lot of my friends, coworkers, and acquaintances, if you mention books or reading, things just get…cartoony…to say the least. All kinds of excuses will be invented. Of all the excuses I’ve heard my favorite is still: uh-yeah, gotta go..start my car…won’t start on it’s own! Most of the time the person who is reading will be subject to poking and prodding by some while others comment on the possible deterioration of his or her brain. It’s odd to watch sometimes, and yes, usually I’m the one subject to the funny stares and jokes. *sigh* Sometimes I’m just sitting there waiting for the crazy antics to come to a screeching halt, and other times I’m looking to the ceiling waiting for an anvil to fall on someone’s head. It hasn’t happened yet.

This episode of Animaniacs brought to you by Hands on Tools’ body shop supplies. x_X

Wait, I thought we established that this wasn’t a cartoon? Err…so yeah, roll that beautiful bean footage!

Thanks for the comment, but it wasn’t DH. It’s called “Feed” by M. T. Anderson.

The only person I know who reads as much as me would be my mother. None of my friends are active readers, aside from manga, and I have to force books I think they’d like upon them. :yay:

    Also, go Animaniacs. :yay:

    Brandon,

Like I said, it was a guess. I honestly didn’t know what book you were talking about and since some people are still talking about that book…it seemed like a good guess! :D

Same here, I was going to count all of my manga-obsessed friends, but when I thought about it, most of them keep up with it online and read the chapters in one sitting then go a period of time without reading again…so they still don’t read as much as I do. I think they watch more anime than read manga to be honest.

At least I’m not the only one who has to force books on people! XD

I love how you randomly stick in a sponsored link ;) That is true though, we’re so busy that it’s hard to find time and willingness to read. I personally haven’t started any new books since I got married and moved, I just haven’t had the time. So I feel for other people who don’t either. But I also think that reading is important and we should try to find a few hours here and there for the leisurely task. But not everyone can be a blogging bookworm like Joanana ;)

    Julie,

 I try my dear. *bows*

Yes, I do seem to get an inordinate amount of time in to blog and read don’t I? What if I told you it’s because I’m just a computer program and my creator has designed me in such a manner as to appear as though I were a human woman who enjoys blogging, anime, music, and reading? Would this explain how I appear to do more in the same time frame as others?

Of course this would imply that the real Joana is a programing and technological genius…not to mention quite possibly anti-social and filled with a very strange sense of humor.

^Well we already knew about your strange sense of humor… so I suppose the rest must be true. Though I guess that does explain why you manage to have time for so much blogging and reading and all that. Wow, one of my closer online pals is a computer program. So what does that make me? lmao

    Julie,

Yes, my creator’s quirks seem to have been passed on to me. I suppose you could say that you are in fact friends with both my creator and myself since she checks my logs and readouts daily. I would say this makes you a very special person as my creator has few people she considers a close friend and you are one of them. ;)

    *hugs*
