I think am preservationist considering that most of our textbook here in our country and can be recycled and can be used by other people or students as reference so it is indeed ironic to leave some or jot down something in it. I usually jot down notes in xerox papers of our textbooks and other references when studying it.

I can understand the last part, I wouldn’t like it, but I could understand that. As for the highlighting of important bits…stick it notes is the way that I go. Different strokes for different folks though.

See that’s where I have to disagree, I don’t highlight or write in my college textbooks. I use little stickies and the like.

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one! I see everyone around me highlighting and marking up textbooks and I can’t help but go WTF?

When they do it in leisure books as well, that’s when I start running.

The only time I write in my books is a) my Wicca books have important things I want to remember or access easily highlighted, and b) my ex-roommate was as much of a book collector as I am and she decided that our names had to be written in ALL of our books so we knew what book belonged to whom.

I only write in the cover of books and only in the context of BookCrossing. I would never write in a borrowed book.

I bet I would do it…if it were my book forever and ever. But in used books, its infuriating to be going through and find someone’s stupid notes on a paragraph. It just ruins it. Unless it’s for class and that person had perfect handwriting and wrote awesome notes…

Another exception is if they’re used textbooks from my mum. In which case, that helps, because she’s pretty good at highlighting important stuff.

It was ok for me list something in the textbook besides I am using pencil to do it so I can erased it anytime I like.

I’m with you, I don’t like to write in books. I mean if it’s a college text book and you have to highlight and stuff, that’s one thing. But a novel? It’s perfect already, there’s no reason to mess with it.

I too prefer to buy used books without the junk. And writing in my books is a big no, no!
