Bookmooch isn’t worth the time of day

I’m just fed up with this site now. I used to think it was decent and my only gripe was that their wishlist feature was, to be frank, for shit. I mean what good is it to have a wishlist and be notified when a book has been added to the system if you have to race to the site (and you can never remain logged in) and pray no one else who had it wishlisted has beaten you to it? More times than not I never got the notification fast enough or I wasn’t on the computer to even see the notification that day. PBS’ system is much better in that sense because it goes by order of request and as a copy becomes available they go down the list and allow the person 48hrs to decide whether they want it or not and then move on to the next one. That’s a fair system, I thought, and it’s more friendly. But Bookmooch allows you to get a 1/10th of a point for every book you list in the system so you’re not so dependent on the popularity of your books. So between the two I was pretty happy, until today.

Never before have I had this problem with a member before, but one of the books that I had on my wishlist became available and I was ecstatic. I hurried over, and thankfully I was already logged in, then I clicked request and away I went. Here I was so eager to finally get a book I’d been wanting for a long time. Then I got the rejection email where the member spoke to me as if I were a child and stated that the book was reserved for someone else which was mentioned on the request page. Huh where? I was confused, no site that I’m a member of (Bookins, PBS) allows that sort of behavior. Their policy is that if you want to give it so a specific member then you send it to directly them directly. You do not enter it into the system because then it is fair game.

So I went and left feedback on the transaction, I stated plain as day that the person listed a book then rejected me so that she could send it to someone else and puzzled over entering it into the system to begin with and commented that it was a waste of time (mine and hers). I left a comment that stated the fact and I left the feedback as neutral, neither positive nor negative. To me though what she did screamed of abusing the system so I brought up the report system and was composing a report message when I got yet another snarky email from the member. She pointed out that she mentioned it, yet again, so I checked and amidst all the bright red commentary that burned my eyes I saw it, so I responded back and said yes that I saw it now but with all the red it’s near impossible to see so maybe she should try spacing it out or not highlighting everything in red.

That was the end of that, so I thought. Instead she responds back and ridicules me for never having dealt with the commentary bits before because they’re always in red. How was I supposed to know? No other members had paragraphs about shipping procedures on their request pages before. That’s hardly cause for ridicule. Then she goes and makes another derisive comment on my feedback. Enough is enough I thought, so finally I sent in a complaint.

Then I get yet another snippy comment from her and the admin who accuses me of calling foul on members when they’re not in the wrong and calls me a liar. I responded back stating that there was no point in listing the book which is why I reported her and that she had no right to keep emailing me snippy comments and posting comments on my feedback either. I volunteered to forward my emails to the admin, which I did, then I get the snippy response from the admin that she has read comments from both sides and calls me a liar. I responded with an EXCUSE ME? Because that was just too much. Apparently I gave the other member a negative feedback when I said I didn’t so I’m a liar and I’m a liar because I was the one that gave negative feedback. Um no, I never gave negative feedback I just stated the facts. Since when is the truth negative? The admin even had the gall to quote back a part of my comment to me as proof of my false hood:

And of course now the admin threatens to cancel my account because of this

“the member has engaged in rude commenting on my feedback page ”
And I looked into it, and this was not true. She had written nothing whatsoever on your feedback page. You did leave negative comments on her feedback page, along with a rating of ‘zero’.

Right there clear as day she quotes back to me what I said and her comment just proves my point. I never said she gave me negative feedback just rude comments and continuous and pointless emails – harassment. The admin also said the woman never commented, um hello, clearly she did and it’s still there.

So to me this is just utter bullshit. I’m fucking fed up with this, just because the woman has been there longer than me, as the admin so nicely pointed out, she’s automatically fucking right. Bullshit. Fuck that I’m through with them. I requested some books, we’ll see if I get them sent. I sure as hell ain’t sending anymore out that’s for sure. I’ll just use up the rest of the points I have then I’m gone. I don’t care much for bookins charging my card $3.99 every damn time I request a book but even that is preferable to this biased treatment.

That is completely and utterly STUPID. Why list a book if it’s reserved? Isn’t that pointless? Yes indeed it is. I wonder if anyone else has requested the book and if so, did they get snippy responses like you did. Pffft. I’m sorry Joana. What book are you trying to get?? And so far, I like PBS!! Thanks for showing me it.

    Julie,
Thank you hun, I needed the hug. :) It’s been a long battle with them, back and forth all day long. Maybe I should have walked away awhile ago but having the admin call me a liar just really floored me. I never lied, I just stated the fact.

This proves that some people cannot handle the truth.

    Kate,
My sentiments exactly! That is why I was disappointed and left the feedback that I did. If other members have the book available for a swap then I wanted people to know that hey, you’re odds are about 50/50 that this member will accept your request. Better to go to someone who is truly willing to swap it.

I’m glad you’re enjoying PBS. It’s my favorite swapping site that I’ve found thus far too. I don’t know if anybody else has attempted to swap the book, Over the Moon by Angela Knight, as well. They might not have ever gotten the chance since I did request it and then received the rejection. Depending on how fast her friend got to it no one else might have gotten the opportunity to request it.

Yeah that is rough. It is sad to see when people get ticked off for no reason. Let me know how it turns out?
