Portrait of Denali

Portrait of DenaliSometimes it seems like Isis gets the most attention on this blog, as she’s the one who stays still long enough for my camera to snap a picture of her. Denali is always on the go and rarely just taking it easy. Which, when you think about it, is a relief really, because it means she’s a healthy and active kitty. And so long as she’s healthy, happy, and active, I don’t have to worry about getting the kitty equivalent of a prescription of Phentermine 37.5 mg from my vet because she’s overweight, or worse yet, diabetic.

Sometimes I have to remind myself of this though, specifically after she’s caused another disaster and is looking all too innocent. Despite it all, I love her to bits and wouldn’t change her for the world! :luv:

Now though, Denali has one up on Isis when it comes to the blogosphere! Karen Jo wrote this kitty limerick for Denali:

Denali’s hunting skills are awesome.
She loves to catch spiders, which she finds pawsome.
She is missing a claw
On her right front paw,
But that doesn’t prevent her from being awesome.

Thank you Karen Jo, that was really sweet and it brought a smile to my face and to see a post written about Denali. :) And yes, her claws did grow back. The one that was not expected to grow back at all made a return, albeit it continuously remains smaller than her other claws, and the one next to it made a perfect full recovery.

And nope, despite the awkwardness of it, her claw-less state did not deter her from hunting in the least. In fact, I’d venture to say she forced herself to hunt a little bit more. She refused to let it get her down. :cute:

A Wet Salad for Isis

Paw Prints, Shutterbugging - 1 Comment » - Posted on July, 17 at 8:24 pm

Hehe, Isis doesn’t need the kitty version of Lipovox! Isis knows that the best way to keep her kitty-figure lean and trim is to spice up her diet with some greens. And considering how much rain we’ve been getting, you can bet the lawn outside is indeed very green and very fresh. In fact, yesterday evening, she went outside for a bit to munch on some grass that was still glistening with that evening’s rain:

Isis in the wet grass

As you can see, we need to cut the grass - again. I thought for sure, since it was wet, that Isis wouldn’t want to be out in the yard, but she rather enjoyed it.

BTT: Vacation Spots

Bookworm, Memes - 1 Comment » - Posted on July, 17 at 8:02 pm

Happy Thursday folks! Ah yes, the week is almost over. This week’s Booking Through Thursday question asks:

Do you buy books while on vacation/holiday?
Do you have favorite bookstores that you only get to visit while away on a trip?
What/Where are they?

I usually end up taking a book with me on vacation, usually to help pass the time while waiting in an airport, on a long flight, or just in case I need some relief from travel stress. As a result, the book is usually a paperback (travels better) and is normally a book I’ve read multiple times but never get tired of. This is in hopes that if I’m in need of something to occupy my mind, I can slip right into that mind set. At the same time, if I get jarred or am unable to return to the book, since I am on vacation and all, I won’t be upset for having lost my place or something.

While on vacation I don’t really buy books. I’d rather spend my money on something that I can’t buy at home or for events and happenings in that locale. I can buy any book from the comfort of my own home after all, but I can’t say the same for touring, for example, the Arc de Triomphe. The only exception to this might be a nicely crafted book filled with the history of and pictures of the site I’m visiting. But then that falls under the category of souvenir really.

I’m Not Suffering this Summer!

ORLY? - No Comments » - Posted on July, 16 at 11:53 am

It’s so weird having a properly working A/C in my car this year. It seems like every summer since I first bought Pyro I’ve put off getting it summerized, or caved in and did it at the last minute. Needless to say, the summer when I was working as a security guard was major hell. A lot of times there wasn’t any place to go to in order to get out of the oppressive heat, so one’s only choice was to sit in your vehicle for a few minutes with the air conditioner on.

Just imagine it, it’s a hot day, it rains briefly, but for hours afterwards it’s muggy and humid and you’re wearing a uniform. :grr: After work I’d always take the freeway and have the windows rolled all the way down - fresh air!

It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if I could work on my car on my own, but aside from the basics, I can’t, and I really don’t dare to either. But for those of you who are blessed with the know-how and guts (oh, how I do envy you!) you could always visit 1airconditioning.com auto air conditioning needs. ;) They have a selection of A/C parts to get your air conditioner up and running smoothly.

Amazing what you’ll find on the internet, isn’t it?

BTT: Doomsday

Bookworm, Memes - 1 Comment » - Posted on July, 16 at 11:14 am

Eh, heh. I actually missed last week’s Booking Through Thursday question, so I thought I would answer it now before I answer this week’s question gets posted. The question was:

What would you do if, all of a sudden, your favorite source of books was unavailable?

Whether it’s a local book shop, your town library, or an internet shop … what would you do if, suddenly, they were out of business? Devastatingly, and with no warning? Where would you go for books instead? What would you do? If it was a local business you would try to help out the owners? Would you just calmly start buying from some other store? Visit the library in the next town instead? Would it be devastating? Or just a blip in your reading habit?

Well, if Hastings were to burn down I would definately cry, but not because I would have lost my source for books. ;) See, even though Hastings is a book seller, I go there for the anime. If Barne’s & Noble burned down, well I would be a bit sad, but I would shrug it off.

Now if, for some unfathomable reason, PaperBackSwap, Amazon.com, and Half.com went belly-up over night I would break down and go into hysterics. PBS has saved me a lot of money by letting me swap books. I can check out books that I normally would never have chanced and I can get rid of ones I’ve read, but don’t really feel like keeping. You may be wondering why I don’t just make use of the library, but the truth is, it sucks. It’s got the most horrific hours of operation, selection is poor if the author isn’t well known, and they have gremlins.

Gremlins? Yeah. Mysterious books get checked out on accounts that never return, then years down the road they tell you that you checked out a certain book (which you know you never did) and that it was never returned. Now pay late fees or replace the book. What makes it worse is that it was apparently checked out using the card you reported as lost or stolen, but applied to your new account. :wtf:

Yes, I have a grudge against my local library.
