Metamorphosis

Rating: PG

I can still remember that day as clear as any other day in my life. I was coming home from school with Janet and Chrissi. They, however, had already went home. Leaving me alone, I rode my bike with ease. The wind was strangely calm today, unlike the previous storm-like forecasts we've been having. It was a beautiful day, until my body was covered in blood on the street in the blink of an eye. With my last bit of strength, I remember turning my head and seeing the large group of people, the police, the drunkard who drove his car into me and the ambulance. I smiled, but I tried to regret it. What can possibly be happy about death? It was the strange sensation, this wonderful feeling of pain, which I was able to become truly happy about.

I stood at the Dark Gate. The Digital Gods have informed me about my grandfather and his colleague's works. But, why have they summoned me here? I can tell that they're conversing in that fortress of theirs. About what? I'm a ghost, so I wear the same clothing which I wore the day I died. It was covered in blood. Before I could think one more thought, Quinglongmon appeared before me. "Yes?" I asked patiently. I seemed so calm, but the truth was I was fearful. I have never before seen a Digital Monster until this very day, and the effect was still on me.

"Zhuqiuaomon has informed you of the D-Reaper and the Tamers, correct?" he asked. I nodded, jealous of the Tamers and their Digimon. "Alice McCoy," began Quinglongmon, "we ask you to please go to the Real World to deliver a message."

"A message? And how am I supposed to regain my body?" I had so many questions to ask, but I knew they were limited. Baihumon appeared next to Quinglongmon.

"Take Dobermon, the Digital Glide, to the Tamers. They cannot win the war against the D-Reaper unless they merge, and Dobermon has this power," he stated. Dobermon walked out of the fortress, stopping when he was in front of me. I blinked, and began to shake with anxiety.

"Is he..." I began, "...my..."

"You are not a Tamer. Dobermon is not your partner," boomed a voice. Zhuquiaomon appeared in the sky. I scorned, for he was the Digital God I hated the most. Why did he have to crush my wish? But, suppose I do a good job of delivering the message. Will Dobermon choose me as his...

"We're sorry, child." replied a calm voice. Xuanwumon appeared, the four Digital Gods now before me. A tear escaped my eye, but Dobermon came over to lick it off.

"How can you even..." I started. I was interrupted by a gasp. I had cried! But how was that possible? "Did you make me...human again?" The Gods kept their eyes straight, except for Zhuquiaomon. The Gods began to glow their respective colors, and I felt an odd sensation.

Life
Love
Hatred
Unity
Destruction
Chaos
Revenge
Oblivion
Human...

I opened my eyes from this weird feeling. I looked to my body, and that's exactly what it was. I was naked, but that wasn't a problem. I looked to Dobermon.

"Alice, only you can deliver my message to the Tamers. And if you succeed, you shall have the opportunity to return to your life. Do you accept?" asked Dobermon. I looked to him, smiled and nodded. I wanted my life back so desperately, and I would have Dobermon in it! A black light cascaded my body, and I was suddenly wearing black, gothic clothes. The only type of clothing which actually suited me. Dobermon nodded, and we were off.

And now I'm here, standing in West Shinjuku. The Tamers had already evolved, leaving me alone. "Dobermon..." I began. He had to die to deliver his message, to restore the powers of Matrix Evolution and the Digital Glide...why did nobody tell me this? Dobermon's head appeared before me. I embraced it. "Dobermon!" I shouted, filled with joy. "You came...back..." I said, my voice trailing off as Dobermon licked me and vanished. Tears filled up in my eyes. The Digital Gods never said that he would have to die! The Tamers completely forgot about me, forgot to thank me...how dare they? I faded out and reappeared on top of a large building. "They said I would have the chance to return...but a life without Dobermon isn't worth it. No longer shall I be a ghost..." I stared up to the sky. "I shall join you, Dobermon, in the true afterlife. Wait for me..." I vanished.

Dolphin, AKA Mr. McCoy, was busily typing on his laptop with the other Wild Ones. His eyes squinted, tired from staring at a screen all day. He looked out the window for a quick break, but what he saw scared him. He immediately stood up and ran to the window. "Alice?!" He put his hands on the glass, gasping as he saw his only (dead) granddaughter stand on a building. But, it must've been his imagination, for the next second, she was gone.
