Chapter Four

It was hard to keep up.

After all, real Dobermans are one of the faster breeds of dog. But Dobermon was a least twice the size of a horse and could run just that good.

I wanted to ask him if we could slow down, but I knew that wasn’t possible. You could tell this was a life or death thing the way he was running.

“There’s the blockade.”

I starred ahead, panting heavily. At least now that we were near it he had slowed down a bit.

The blockade was really just a bunch of police and CIA cars lined up bumper-to-bumper along the road around the area. There were cameras everywhere monitoring a two mile ratios, they had known we were coming before we had had them in sight.

By now I could see the D-Reaper.

Just like in my dream...

Like a great mound of red goo it was pulsing and oozing slowly outward and upward. Growing bigger. It was hotter here too. How suitable the chaos was red in color. Fiery red. Just looking at it made me feel hotter.

“Attention! You and the creature!”

An officer on a megaphone was blaring at us.

“This area is restricted. I must ask you to leave.”

I was frightened. We were a safe distance away, but I could still see the missiles and guns the trucks and men carried. And I didn’t like it.

What if they shoot at Dobermon?

Dobermon sensed my worries. “They won’t Alice, don’t worry.” I starred at him with sad eyes. “The humans are under strict orders not to open fire at any digimon.”

I was still worried. Those weapons looked ready to fire to me.

Suddenly, Dobermon lay down on his belly. “Hop on.” I was puzzled.

“Huh?”

He looked at me straight in the eye. “We have to get passed them.”

“We?” I asked, still uncertain.

“Yes.” He answered, then paused. “Unless you’re afraid.” He sounded almost amused.

I wasn’t.

“I not afraid of anything.” I told him as I climbed on his back. “Not of being alone. Or riding a digimon... Not anything.”

Dobermon began to run towards the wall of cars. “Not anything, Alice. Not even death?”

I am not afraid of death. My mother died. My father seemed to die as well. I’ll be with her when I die. I almost wish I would...

With a awing leap, he soared over the men and women poised to shoot. All they saw was his tan under-belly and then we were gone.

“No.” I told him finally. “I am not afraid of death.”
