Chapter Three
I don’t really remember what was going through my head at that time...
I knew I should be screaming.
I knew I should be thinking this was the end.
I knew I should be afraid.
But I wasn’t.
Instead I was starring, transfixed on this creature. This... Digimon. That was before me.
Oh my god! He’s real!
I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I had a strong sensation that this was the “messenger” the shadow creatures were speaking about, but, I didn’t have a clue what that meant.
“Are... Are you... Dobermon?” The sound of my own voice scared me. I don’t talk much so it’s kind of thin and scratchy. But mostly I was startled that I was even able to speak at all considering the situation.
To my even greater surprise, the digimon answered. “Yes... I am Dobermon, I am the messenger... Are you the human that has been chosen to help me?” His voice was deep and coarse.
All I could do was stutter. “Help... B-but. I? I’m... J-j-just. Wha? Who?”
The digimon sighed. “I suppose I must explain this...” He fixed me with a cold stare. “If I am to tell you of what is currently happening in two worlds then you must help me. I cannot give this information away to one who would not put it to good use.”
I nodded furiously. I don’t know why. For some reason I just wanted to know. Besides, I liked this creature. I don’t know why. Maybe... Because he reminded me of myself... I don’t know. “I promise.”
“Very well then.” The creature sat down and began. “I am a digimon. A computer program created by humans that grew out of control. So they created another program to destroy us when we grew to powerful. They called this the D-reaper. I believe you know of it. Do you not, Alice?”
The red blobby stuff. That’s got to be it! I nodded my head, not wondering at all how he knew my name.
“It mutated. And began to destroy my world. Tamers, humans who had befriended digimon came to the digital world and battled it. But it followed them upon their return to earth. They cannot fight it here. They cannot digievolve. Which is why I must give them back the light of digievolution.”
The light of digievolution. Just like the four creatures said.
“How will you give them back the light?”
The digimon sighed. “I must sacrifice body...”
I gasped. He would die... That’s what he meant. He would die and give them back the light. “But that’s horrible!”
Dobermon growled at me. “Sometimes a life must be sacrificed to save many others...”
I still didn’t like it. But I was but a human and didn’t even know who these tamers were. “What must we do?”
“We must find the tamers.” He walked towards the door. Then turned back to me. “You promised Alice. I have faith in a human’s promise.”
I walked up to him. “Don’t.” I advised. And we walked out into the streets.
