Chapter Two
And then I wake up.
Even when I wake up I’m not in the right place. I’m at my grandmother’s house. My father left me here.
He went back into the city.
Back through the blockade.
He took my only picture of mother with him.
I tried to go through the blockade to get it back... They didn’t let me pass.
I sat their alone. I guess I should be getting used to it by now, I’ve always been alone. I was alone when mother died. I was alone at school with no friends. And I am alone now with no family but grandma, and all she does is sleep and cook.
By know I’d figured out what the blobby stuff in my dreams was. The D-reaper, the stuff in the city that dad had to go off and fight. I must have been seeing the digimon battle it in their world.
It doesn’t make sense. None of it does. I know my father created digimon. But he doesn’t talk about it much. Considering all the trouble they’ve caused.
But I never thought they were bad... Just misunderstood. Like me. I’m something of what you’d call a “Goth”.

The computer began to spark. At first I thought the power must be shorting out but the lights were fine. Window popped up on the screen. Codes and numbers started to scroll down the screen.
“Weird!” I crawled over to it. The windows were starting to come together, fitting and molding like one big jigsaw puzzle. ’Till only one giant window filled the entire screen. The codes and numbers were moving faster now. Scrolling down the screen at high speeds. The “blipping” sound it was making was so loud I was sure grandma would wake up. But I couldn't bring myself to turn it off.
I just starred, like I was in a dream. Starring...forever...at...the...screen. The codes vanished, the screen went totally white. Then four shadowed figures appeared in the corners of the screen.
I fell backwards. The whole room had gone dark and shadowy. It felt weird and hot. The figures were starring at me. Hard. Like I had starred at the screen. Just starring...with their glowing four eyes.
“Are you the one?” Boomed one of the creatures. It looked like a tiger. I was to afraid to answer. My back was pressed flat to the wall opposite.
“Yes she is the one.” Said the dragon-like creature. “She had the dreams, we found her. She is the one.”
Are they talking about me? I wondered. It can’t be. This must be a dream I’ll wake up soon... I pinched myself, I didn’t wake up. It wasn’t a dream.
“Human!” The bird thing brought me back to attention. “Give heed to these instructions, for in them hangs the balance of your and our worlds.”
I wanted to sink into the wall. If only it would just swallow me up like the chaos did. I’d be alone again. Free from these things with their booming voices. Talking about me as if I were some kind of chosen hero in a video game.
“Guide the messenger to the Tamers...” Their images were starting to flicker. They were vanishing. Fading. “He will give them back the light... It will save your world...”
Messenger? It was just like my dream. “Who are you?” I ran back to the screen, grabbing it roughly. As though trying to make them stay. “Please wait!”
“We are the Digimon Sovereigns. Rulers of the digital world. We are sending the messenger to you...” They were fading fast. “Give them back...the...light.”
Digimon? The things my father made. It all made sense now!
And then they were gone all was quite. All was the same. Except for the...huge...dog...standing...right...in front... of...me...
